So glad we stopped here. It was recommended by a very knowledgable woman at the key deer visitor's center. Visit the center if you have time..... lots to learn here re: the area.

Take the short trail which leads to the small pond. There are alligators here. They will pop their heads our and swim to you if you crinkle paper because they think you have food. Do not feed them!!!!

You can also see some cool birds and possibly the key deer.... Best time to see the deer is at dusk... we saw 1 in the front yard of a home.

We met an interesting local woman who had some great stories to tell... she said the deer will actually go into people's cars to steal the groceries if the car door is left open.

Be very cautious and drive the speed limit in this area.....we witnessed speed traps & cars pulled over.

Again. This is a great spot to view some wild alligator in their natural environment.

It is a cool little wildlife reserve in the heart of Big Pine. It is the only true freshwater lake in the keys, a very cool trait. Sometimes crocodiles are seen swimming, and key deer have used it for many many years. It is the quintessential spot to check out the natural, rocky, pine and cactus-sey beauty that is the largest island in the Florida Keys. Stop by on your journey.

It's not a bad place to stop for 15 or 20 minutes but not a place to plan your day around. well kept and very clean :-)
