This resort is incredibly well run! And it is kept very clean! Customer is number one. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable! Location is spectacular with tarpon fishing and lobstering right outside the camp. The resort offers dockage, gas, and a well stocked store. Many other amenities like a super pool and resort run events for the family. We've been coming to the Keys fir 25 years.... Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge is our favorite place to stay.

we were supposed to stay here 3 nights this weekend, we got there and were there 30 minutes and left asking for our money back. its more like rows and rows of close together trailers, very few water sites. besides the water around the camping area was gross. One big shower house for the entire campground with fligt of stairs up to it so if you cant climb stairs, or are tent camping and have to go in the middle of the night FORGET IT. you are out of luck.. And forget paved roads anywear including no pavement at your campsite. for 84.00 a night to park my pop up camper this just wasn't worth it. giving it 2 stars because if you have a boat, its convenient to go out fishing from here, plus when I left they gave me a refund no questions asked. but there are way better places to stay than here. looked like a trailer park with some sites had 20 people on it partying.. just avoid it, why go on a vacation to stay in a place like this. Id rather stay home..

Room Tip: my best tip I can give you is to stay somewhere else

Our whole stay of 4 nights was incredible. The room was squeaky clean and the staff was ever so helpful and nice. This is an ideal location to stay whether you are fishing or just taking in the sites and for the price, it would really be hard to beat. The only hiccup was the air condition malfunctioned on our first night and they offered to put us up in a hotel but since we were pretty tired and the room temperature was confortable enough, we decided to stay. They even brought us 2 box fans. When we checked out, to our surprise, they refunded our first night back to us. They have activities each day for the kids and movies each night in the rec room, even had a banana split social one night. Too much more things to do to list. Can't wait til next year as we're planning to take the kids and grand kids

We camped on the water and woke up to deer in our tent door! Great bathhouses, very clean and functional. The staff were all very nice while we were there and with making reservations. We fully intend on going back and staying longer. It's the perfect location in the keys for day tripping around. We prefer a more relaxed place over staying in key west, this is perfect. Bahia Honda is right up the road with a perfect beach and snorkel trips to Looe key reef, which you must do.

Just got home today! Camped while we were there. Canal site boat right out back made it very easy. Snorkeling and fishing were fun even though the wind was blowing! Our neighbor capt Steve was great gave us lots of tips and was a fun companion in the evenings! Staff was sweet as could be. Go to the happy hour lots of fun and met all the neighbors! And what an awesome bunch of people. I think life long friends:)

We have traveled to the keys with the kids a few times and we always go back to the most reliable spot, Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge. The kids are safe and there is none of that crazy stuff you read about with the other sites. It's our favorite place to escape as family, a place that we can afford a new and interesting memories every time. I'd give it 6 stars if I could, because the people are wonderful and you don't feel like they are taking advantage of you.

My family and I have camped here for several years now each summer. Overall we like it very much but there are some things that could be improved. More trees could be planted between the sites. However, everyone who camps are repeat families that we see every year so we've gotten to know our neighbors. The staff is sometimes friendly and they create activities like the ice cream social and activities for the kids. Many on the staff can also be quite quirky and gruff when you're talking to them at the counter or on the phone. It's not a big issue because I don't go there to see the staff, just have to deal with their unusual predispositions. It's only the counter staff personnel. The maintenance and janitorial staff have always been super friendly and helpful and I look forward to chatting with them each year. I cringe a little when I have to ask anything of the counter staff. I guess when the location and fishing is so good that there's a wait list for your camping spot that it doesn't make sense to invest in staff customer relations training. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they feel that they are being friendly but it comes across to me (and a few of the others who've given reviews on here) as wasting their time if you ask anything of them. Give it a try and call them to ask about a rate, availability, how's the fishing, weather, or anything then ask a second question and you'll hear what I'm talking about. (305) 872-2351

The other gripe is that the restrooms and showers look great but there is NO real ventilation to pull the shower heat out of the individual restrooms so it's like a sauna every time! I bring a fan that minimally helps - just blows the hot air around inside the room. Just install an exhaust fan in each restroom/shower and it will make it a thousand times better. To compound the lack of ventilation there is absolutely NO COLD or COOL water available in the showers. The sinks have very cold water but something is wrong with every shower control because the water temperature is hot, hotter, and super hot. Even barely turning the shower on gives HOT water when that is supposed to be cold only. When it's 95+ degrees outside all day a cool shower is nice like standing under the water hose. Don't have that ability though in the shower rooms since there is no cool water available in the shower. It's very strange because there is VERY cold water in the sink. Every possible setting in the shower gives HOT water. I wish they would fix this and the exhaust fan. I DARE NOT mention this to the counter staff or owner for fear of being banned and loosing my camping spot.

The redemption is that the facilities are super clean. The same guests come back year after year. The swimming pool is heated and cooled. It used to not be cooled and was like getting in a bath tub but now it's quite nice. The fishing is great. It really is a nice place.

Summary: The staff needs to realize that the guests pay A LOT to be there and the staff should reminded OFTEN to never let on that they are annoyed in having to speak to the guests. It's family owned and operated so maybe they've never had any real hospitality training to behave like hotel counter staff. Secondly they need to fix the ventilation and hot water only showers. Lastly, plant some trees between the campsites. If the owner would address those issues and they would get all excellent remarks from me and i will revise this review. Still we will be back next year because the pros outweigh the cons.
