“Loved everything about it...sad to be back”
Reviewed March 23, 2008

Deer Run is meant for you if you are looking for a tranquil, beautiful, nature friendly place to spend your vacation. We spent 3 days at Deer Run and are sad to be back in NYC. It was a balm for the soul.

Highlights include but are not limited to : Harry and Jen (the proprietors), the key deer in the backyard, Angel (you'll find out once you go there) beautiful ocean front vistas from your room and proximity to the Bahia Honda state park (best beach in the keys).

Big Pine Key and Deer Run may not be the place for folks looking to be in the heart of bustling Key West activity. But Key West is a 45 min-1hour drive from Deer Run

Really wonderful, quirky little place to stay and such a contrast to Key West and the rest of the Keys. Unfortunately we could only stay one night - wished we had booked for longer. The Eden room with it's garden was delightful (as were our hosts Jen and Harry) but I must say the highlight for us was meeting the deers -such a privilege to get so close to them. If you're in the area it's definitely a place not to be missed.

Everything you've read on Tripadvisor about Deer Run B&B is true.

What a fabulous place to unwind. My wife and I spent our anniversary there, the first week of Feb 08, and we will be going back.

Jen and Harry are wonderful hosts, they do their best to make sure your stay is pleasant. The breakfasts are Vegan and I can honestly say the food was delicious. For a meat and potato guy like me to say that... it means something!

We stayed in Atlantis and enjoyed seeing the oceanfront view each morning from our bedroom.

I can't add much to what has already been said. Except it was difficult to leave, and we can't wait to go back.

Kudos to Jen and Harry.... and Angel.

What a great place. If you are looking to relax this is your perfect place. This Bed & Breakfast doesn't feel like the avergae B&B. It is located in a quiet primarily residential area. It feels like you are staying with a friend as I could easily call this place my new home. I could have spent my whole trip relaxing here. They offer amazing imenities glass bottom kayak, regular sea kayaks, a jacuzzi, pool, outdoor fire, a hammock swaying between 2 palm trees, bicycles, a golf cart, adorable garden area, a comical tropical bird named Angel, and the cutest endangered Key Deer who are very friendly and very curious. They were outside walking along the beach and Deer Run property every morning, they even get close enough to lick your hands. There is a live reef located a short kayak trip off of their private Beach. This B&B is also green, offereing organic vegan continental breakfast which was very yummie. We stayed in the Atlantis Suite which overlooked their private beach this room was fabulous, very comfortable (a huge bed, flat screen t.v.'s, a mini regrigerator & freezer) with a living room and large screened in porch area. They also have a couple of gas grills on their beach patio , so if you catch any fish grill away. Be sure to spray yourself with bug spary as the local nocium flies can be pesky. The gas fire helps to keep them at bay.

  • Liked — It was quiet and very relaxing with lots of activities to offer

Harry and Jen are the most fantastic hosts. They create amazing breakfasts for you. The room we stayed in was called EDEN. It was pure white, so big and clean. I loved the quiet AC unit and garden area. The deer walk right up to you here. The sunsets and sunrises are gorgeous. Use the kayaks one and two person to explore the area. The hammock is perfect for watching the stars. Use the grill and watch the deer beg for your food! Angel is Harrys Cockatoo, she is sooo sweet. The golf cart is great for quick trips to the store and watching animals off coupon bright. Use the free passes to get in to Bahia Honda State Park, the most amazing beach ever. You will love it here. we did'nt want to come home.

  • Liked — Jens delicious vegan food and the view, well I loved everything!!!
  • Disliked — lots of no-seeums- use good bugspray

Amazing secluded location with the garden paths leading onto a full panoramic view of the ocean. You really feel like you have come to the end of the earth and found paradise. Lots of palm trees with lovely landscaping and a long stretch of beach where we spend time on the hammocks enjoying the ocean and the cool breeze. They are even putting in a pool that will face the ocean. I can’t wait to come back!. Can go kayking, or grill, or just enjoy the hot tub right on the beach! We didn’t see another person for miles, except a sailboat in a distance. Our hosts were wonderful, welcoming people, made us feel right at home. Wished we could have stayed several days.
The room was nice, h white wicker furniture, cozy bed, plenty of down pillows, nice beachy art, very fitting for being in a sea side cottage. There was even a little screened patio right outside our room and a garden all lit up with little twinkling lights woven among the trees. Did not encounter any mosquitoes, maybe because they don’t like ocean breezes?

I was a bit worried what a vegan breakfast was like, but it was fabulous, served on a screened upstairs veranda, it was so delicious and filling we ended up taking some of the blueberry sconces with us for a later snack.

I am glad I got to see the Key Deer, it was an experience I’ll never forget. There was a group of a dozen of them, even a 6 week old baby. They would get curious and come check us out as we hung out on the hammocks reading in the evening. Some let me pet them and scratch behind their ears and rewarded me with licks on my arms and legs. I had just come back from kayaking and they were helping me get the sea salt off my legs. They are amazing gentle creatures who seem to spend a lot of time grooming and nuzzling each other.
Right near sunset time we noticed that the tide was going out and that left exposed a lot of the ocean bottom which is sort of a coral rock, tons of little hermit crabs racing around everywhere. All kinds of birds started showing up and nibbling on the shallow crevices of the coral rock where I guess little fish got stranded as the tide went out. It was neat to see egrets, herons, little sandpipers, even mocking birds having their dinner all around us. Deer Run is so incredibly tranquil and romantic. One of the best B&B’s I’ve ever had the pleasure to stay in.

We enjoyed every moment in the cude bed and breakfast. The owners were extremely welcoming and immediately showed us the whole resort. Our room, the Eden room, we considered as the nicest one as it was a little bit separate from the other rooms and was directly facing a small, almost private garden. We did not miss the Ocean view, was it only a few footsteps away from the Ocean. Furthermore, the whole resort is decorated with love and dedication. You constantly see new cude decorations around the house. There were free running deers around the house which we fed every morning with food provided by the owners. Breakfast was absolutely delicious, healthy, plentiful and varied every morning. The inn is far enough from the street that you do not even think about traffic anymore - in short it was a little paradise and we would immediately return to this place.
