Try everything. So much nice food. The roasted chilies with bonito flakes to die for. Great service. A little loud.

“Really, Really Good Stuff”
Reviewed April 21, 2014

Went to Makoto for an early dinner with some friends. We were promptly seated by our hostess and then quickly our waitress came along. We had been here before, plates are meant to be shared so we started ordering. We had a bottle of Chardonnay - fairly nice Napa bottle for $45. The wine list has some fairly priced wines. To eat we ordered steamed edamame, two orders of frosty kobe rice, a tuna tataki, and a rainbow roll. The fish tasted very fresh, the tuna tataki was probably one of the best I have had in a while. The sushi was very good, they use king crab instead of crab stick imitation. For dessert we ordered the mango sorbet with white chocolate that was really good. All the dishes were really good and so was the service. We would definitely keep coming.

“Delicious!”
Reviewed April 6, 2014 via mobile

We ate here twice during a weekend stay at the St Regis across the street. The food was fantastic--the watermelon ceviche and Vegan Steven were my faves. We went for a late lunch and an early dinner, both times the restaurant graciously found room for our infant's stroller.

“Better than Nobu...”
Reviewed April 4, 2014

Stephen Starr is amazing! We have dined in many of his restaurants in Philadelphia and New York and continue to be dazzled each time we experience one of his new ventures. Makoto is another and very special example of his genius. Its location in the Bal Harbour Shops is a bit out of the way (unless you go shopping before dinner!), but it is definitely a worthwhile destination. The decor is attractive, and the food and service were outstanding. Our waiter gave us wonderful recommendations. Every course, from the ramen, through the sushi dishes, to the mochi for dessert was wonderful, enhanced by the exceptional sake. The noise level allowed for conversation without shouting, a big contrast from our dining experiences at Nobu. Makoto is a special dining experience.
