The Bellefonte Cafe provides made from scratch dishes at very reasonable prices. Admittedly theirs is "slow food" and the owner admits if people want fast food, then they should go elsewhere. If one stays they are rewarded with freshly made meals, small but satisfying portions and an extensive list of menu selections.
The setting is an old house which has been artistically, if not funkily, redesigned inside. There is a full bar and in nice weather there is outdoor porch eating and service.
There are daily specials and on a Thursday, for example, lamb dishes , including lamb curry and the like are featured.
It is open for lunch and dinner and for a popular brunch on Sunday. Monday the Bellefonte Cafe is closed and several nights a week there is live music or open mic poetry nights. The crowd is always friendly and there is nothing pretentious about the entire operation. However, one must be aware that dishes are prepared one at a time so waiting time to be served can be quite long....but if one is not in a hurry..the wait if worth it.
