Just saw Darius Rucker last minth. Great little venue to see anyone that comes around. Nice small size seats 2000 some on seats some in bleachers. The bleachers didn't have backs on the seats and they would be uncomforatble for me but it was packed.

My wife and I wanted to see Hotel California, the Eagles tribute band, perform. We had seen them in Wilmington a number of years ago and were very impressed with them. But, we had been unsuccessful in finding tour dates for them in our area. This summer we discovered that they were going to be playing at The Freeman Stage at Bayside in Selbyville.

We bought tickets and were surprised at the low price. They predicted (correctly) that the show would be sold out, so we arrived early (in the rain) to make sure that we could take advantage of the free parking at this new (unknown to us) venue. On arriving, we were amazed to find a lovely concert park nestled in a beautiful shore community, Bayside.

As instructed, we had brought folding chairs and on arrival found a place about one third back from the stage and in the center. Fortunately for us the rain had abated in this open-air venue. We sat in our chairs, had drinks and read books, pending the start of the concert at 7 PM. It's a good thing we arrived early; the place was packed when the concert started.

Hotel California did not disappoint us; they were just as good as we remembered. The concert started on time; the venue, the sight line, and the sound were excellent. And the weather cooperated, leaving us dry for the remainder of the evening.

We had discovered a new venue with an outstanding list of performances for the season (John Tesh had appeared there just the night before). Although our calendar is full for the remainder of this season, we plan to check the program prior to next year's season and expect to make the journey from Wilmington to Selbyville a number of times to see performances at the Freeman Stage at Bayside.

Plenty of parking, bring a lawn chair and enjoy the nature and beauty of the lake. Looking forward to coming again for a relaxing evening under the stars.

We love Freeman! However, the kids don't want to go to the Sat am programs any more because they bake in the hot sun. Even a camoflage net or some sort of screen hung above the area close to the stage would help. But I have no issues with their evening programming, some of the best anywhere has to offer, at relatively low prices, and a small intimate venue. We love sitting on the grass on the far side near the fountain in the golf course lake. It always seems to be a few degrees cooler there!

We were vacationing on Fenwick Island and wanted to do something a bit different on our last evening in town. We read the reviews about the Freeman Stage on Trip Advisor and decided that it sounded perfect for our family. The performance for the night was Celtic Thunder. We packed up a nice dinner with lots of water (it was close to 100 degrees) and arrived about 45 minutes early. Parking was a breeze because there is plenty available for no fee. As we were walking in, we were stopped by a gentleman who told us we couldn't take our small cooler bag in to the performance. He said we could remove the contents and take them in, but that we couldn't take bags or coolers. I had just read on the Freeman Stage website that you are welcome to bring picnics, so that was confusing and very inconvenient (the reason I only gave a 4 rating). We had to return to our car and remove the contents of our picnic dinner. We couldn't carry all of the water because it was too much. Another woman who had packed a huge picnic was also turned away and was fuming in the parking lot. The Freeman Foundation needs to clarify their stance on picnics. The tickets were very inexpensive - only $11 per adult (children under 18 are free). The venue itself is beautiful with a lush green lawn and pond with fountain on one side. We had our short beach chairs, but I would recommend bringing the taller outdoor chairs. Most of the regulars had the tall chairs, so we were at a definite viewing disadvantage. If you are interested in buying food and drinks there, they have a concession stand with popcorn, sandwiches, beer, ice cream, etc. The performance by Celtic Thunder was fabulous. They have a great sound system at the stage, so we could hear the Irish tenor loud and clear. I would definitely recommend this venue for locals and visitors, just get some clarification on bringing your own picnic. There is also a wonderful playground located outside the venue. If your young children want to play, you should arrive early as you can't watch the performance from the playground.
