“Rated "very good" because there aren't many other options in Rehoboth”

The Bellmoor has been a star in Rehoboth for many years, and we've been staying there for many years too. Unfortunately the management and staff have become a bit complacent, perhaps as a result of their top-dog status. Rates have become nearly out of reach for most families, especially in summer. The property itself, including the common areas, gardens, pools and rooms, are really very nice, and we greatly enjoy all of this. The breakfast, too, is quite nice. What's lacking is the extra mile in customer service. The Bellmoor charges a required and fairly hefty additional percentage of the room night for services such as housekeeping and bellman - but nine times out of ten, there's no bellman in sight when we arrive. We've been told in the past that we just need to ask, but really, that's not a solution - if everyone is being charged for bellman service, the bellman should be available and come out to greet every arriving guest, and be prepared to help every guest get their luggage back into their car when they depart.

We've also been surprised at the lack of flexibility with regard to turn-down service, especially when we were traveling with younger children who needed to be put to bed early. As for the spa, I would rate it average, and it often looks deserted. The single narrow door has an unwelcoming feel. The reality is that we'll probably continue to stay at the Bellmoor when we visit Rehoboth - though not as often as we used to, due to the prices creeping up! - and they know it, which is why these little details may remain unattended to.

My husband and I just returned from a long, mostly rainy weekend at the Bellmoor. I booked several spa treatments and between the movies, outlets and great nearby eateries we had a relaxing and fun time despite the bad weather. We stayed in the Dickerson room which gave us plenty of space and a sofa for alternative napping option. Did not love housekeeping knocking on our door before 9am but that was easily controlled with the little door sign. The buffet breakfast was pretty crowded; we got bumped to an alternate room which did not compare to the cheery enclosed patio area but the food was good. My biggest complaint (a minor one) was that there were no real consumer oriented magazines in the spa or sitting room areas. Reading fashion and entertainment mags is a big pleasure for me, especially in bad weather or at a spa, but there were only Delaware and travel related reading materials. Spa services were top notch.

My wife and I spent only one night here while doing a change-of-scenery mini vacation of Rehoboth and Lewes. We booked a garden room because of the lower price. As described in the hotel info, this room is not directly connected to the hotel hallways, but is accessed by a very short covered walkway around the courtyard. The room was cozy, very clean and sufficient for a brief stay. It would be slightly inconvenient if you plan to use the pool or hot tub in colder weather, since you must go outside to get to the second floor elevator. Otherwise, no complaints. Good free parking available, in both outdoor lots or underground. We would gladly stay there again.

Room Tip: Garden rooms have an outside access only - cannot access from a hallway. There is a covered walkway...

This was our second stay here and we loved it. Stayed in the Newbold suite and it was once again amazing. There is underground parking, so the car does not get exposed to the salt air. They have a lovely breakfast with omelettes to order, fresh fruit, and standard breakfast fare. The spa is awesome, there is a simple but lovely little gym, pool, and indoor hot tub. Worth the weekend stay!

Over the last Friday-Monday, we made our third visit to the Bellmoor Inn and Spa in the last several years. We have stayed a total of nine days in this Inn, although this was our first visit in 2013. This stay in a Superior Garden Room did not live up to our very positive earlier visits.

On the positive side, the Inn is attractive in a sort of English heritage country home sort of way (dark wood, large chandeliers in public spaces, and historic furniture in some rooms). The Inn has many multi-user rooms such as a small library, small computer room, games room, and so forth. The Inn offers a splendid breakfast in a sumptuous breakfast room with omelets and pancakes (only on Sunday) plus bacon, sausage, and lovely scones, cinnamon buns, juices, fruit, yogurt, etc.

The rooms are a good size, well appointed, clean, and well decorated. The beds are comfortable with duvet covers over the blankets. The garden rooms have a bit of the feeling of staying at a relative's Summer house. The dining room appears a bit like a British country house breakfast room. The Inn has a spa with fairly standard prices. The nicest thing about the Inn is the charming garden immediately outside our garden view room. The gorgeous garden gives the Inn a feeling of restfulness. Cleaning staff are helpful and nice.

On the down side, we were awoken in the middle of our night on our first evening in the Inn by a smoke detector that rang nine times loudly, as a staff member told us it needed a new battery. Whenever the HVAC kicked in, there was a smell of mold in the room. The level of street noise in our superior room was high, as the windows are not double paned. The garbage men, street cleaners, and traffic noise were are very loud in the room, waking us quite early and several times during the night.

Our room key cards were wonky. We returned them several times. Mine never worked. My husband learned the delicate art of slowly seducing the door into opening, by inserting the key at snail's pace, listening for the very faint click, then pulling out slooooooowly. Opening a door should not be such an effort.

While the furniture in all the rooms we have stayed in are quite attractive, the foam seat in the couch had given up the ghost. Sitting on the couch you rested on hard metal or wooden bars, which was quite uncomfortable. Since the couch was so uncomfortable, we did not use the television, which faced only the couch, not the bed.

In the pm, when you closed the four windows in our latest room, shutting the four overpoweringly Kelly green curtains and turned on the room lights, the room was dark and dour. About a third of the room had seating, but no lighting at all (no lamps) so was unusable after dark. Where the room was lit, the lamps had relatively low wattage fluorescent bulbs, making it challenging to read. Older visitors (60+) need six times as much light to read as younger ones do. I found the bathroom lights too dim to use if you wish to apply makeup. This hotel fails at providing adequate light for the older visitors who are apt to find the Inn most attractive. The shower provides a slim trickle of water with relatively little spread or force. The bathroom tile floors and shower were both very slippery when wet and without any non-slip surfaces or grab rails.

Strangely enough, this rather pricey Inn has become stingy about small things. For example: you receive a single roll of toilet paper (which is already in place on the roller); one micro-container of shampoo, conditioner, and lotion per room; and one small packet per room of decaff and caff coffee daily. To receive more of these items, including a back-up roll of toilet paper, you must make contact with the maid. There are relatively few outlets in the room, so we had to move the coffee maker to the bathroom, so we could plug in both the mini-fridge and a bedside lamp, as well as use the coffeemaker. Visitors with multiple phones and computers will find themselves scrambling for outlets behind headboards, couches, and other unlikely and inaccessible spots.

The Inn boasts about having goodies at 4:00 pm. We found a total of nine silver dollar sized cookies on two plates and some un-refilled coffee pots. Seven people were in the tea room hovering over these limited goodies. Tea provided was multiple types of fruit flavored beverages and one type of English Breakfast tea. There is no orange Pequot, no Darjeeling, no Assam, or any other true tea.

There are some service issues as well. While the reservation staff did an excellent job, not all staff were as helpful including the Check-In staff who forgot to get us help carrying our luggage up the many steep wooden steps to our second level garden room and the front desk staffer who could not find my missing prescription sunglasses, which the kitchen had given the front desk. The former led to a sprained back, the latter wasted our time as we tried to depart. The latter was ultimately my fault as I left the glasses on the table. However, this was not exemplary customer service.

This is a nice Inn, but is very pricey for the somewhat middling comforts it provides. It is quite a small hike to the ocean from the Inn. Inn maintenance is clearly not what it once was. Some key Inn features (outlets, couch, shower, and lights) are outdated. Inn staff appear to be overstretched and urged to cut back on perks. Our next stay in Rehoboth will not be at the Bellmoor Inn and Spa.

Room Tip: The Garden Rooms are less expensive, but colder, with much street noise, no elevator to the second f...

The Bellmoor Inn is a wonderful getaway! Staff, morning breakfast and afternoon tea, and the Spa are wonderful. Accomodations are ideal; no room is a disappointment. The location in Rehoboth is ideal for the beach, shopping and restaurants.

Room Tip: For many years we stayed in a Garden Room and only recently switched to the main Inn. No room is a...

My wife and I stayed at the Bellmoor Inn to celebrate our 25th anniversary. It was a great experience from the phone call to make reservations through checkout. Blane, who answered the phone when I called, was very helpful, answered all my questions, about the different rooms, views, services, costs, etc. Throughout our stay she was friendly and always smiling and a great resource to find local restaurants, shops and things to do. I definitely recommend the Bellmoor and will stay there again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the "new" section of the hotel which was very nice, but the "old" s...
