if you would enjoy camping in a 20'x40' sand lot with tents on 5' on each side of you and paying $34 a night for the privilege, then by all means go ahead. I didn't sleep well because you would hear: neighbors conversations, lights glaring in from cars driving thru camp area, US 1 traffic 200' away. Of course if you had a $200k RV, things might have been better. Make sure you bring a tarp with screen as there is zero shade and bugs come out from tidal logoon 10' away, at sunset. If you fish the inlet is right there, if you surf, forget it because you can only surf the North side of the inlet which means walking 1 mile, up and down stairs that go up and over bridge 100', or you could drive a few miles to make u-turn to go North and exit on North side and still walk 500' from parking area. Read 'big pain'. Don't ask the gate attendants where to go for groceries, they send you south to a local grocer, whose cousin works as the attendant. Here you'll find the scariest looking meats and produce fit for a lagoon rat.

Admission (2007) is now $8 per car, but it is good all day and is good for the entire park (not just the beach). The best beach in Delaware by far! Gradual entry into the water (unlike Rehoboth or OC), large waves further out suitable for true surfing (not just belly boards). Extremely easy access from the parking lot to the beach for toting beach stuff. WWII observation towers on premesis.

As a native Marylander, I've had the pleasure of making many trips to the Atlantic beaches year after year. I've not only spent weeks at a time exploring the coast, but have a habit of making day trips to the beach since it's basically less than 3 hours away. Of all the beaches I've visited, I really have to say that Delaware Seashore State Park is one of my very favorite. I've found in comparison to the likes of Ocean City, the water as well as the beach itself is much cleaner. The crowds are less as compared to Rehobeth even in the height of the season which is a main attraction to me. It feels like the way a beach should feel with sandy stretches of dunes instead of high-rise high rent condos as well as t-shirt and junk food venues everywhere. The only real drawback is that later in the day, the bathhouse, particularly the women's, gets pretty funky because people don't understand that they need to pack their trash out. I think the signs should be more obvious about this matter when you enter the park, because the bathroom becomes overfilled with trash, mainly from food products, but also from some other pretty unsavory sources. It's sad that the human species seems incapable of being able to visit such a place of beauty without spoiling it due to laziness and I guess what can be considered a lack of respect and social skills and utter ignorance. Other than that problem, I would say that the 5 dollars usage fee is quite a fair price considering how our parks system is in need of a financial boost for their maintenance.
