“Going Downhill Fast”

The last time we ate here was in 2006 (TA wouldn't let me go back further); the time before that was 2005. In that year, something had gone awry with food/service, which was average and cursory at best. Since we'd been in the past and had a good meal (thou somewhat expensive for what you get; let's face it: much of the enchantment about this place is the atmosophere and proximity to the beach). We chalked our bad experience up to a the restaurant simply experiencing an "off" night. The next year my elderly father and I ate there and before dinner had even started, he literally fell into a hole on the porch and nearly injured himself. In the process he upset the table and water went spilling everywhere. The man who I believe co-owns Back Porch was seating us that night and he never even bothered to apologize, nor did he offer to replace the sopping tablecloth. He only set a pile of napkins on the spill and left the rags there throughout our dinner. Once he realized that we were not ordering drinks, he wanted nothing more to do with us. This was a distinct difference in the way we had been treated the year before; being then a large group of five, all ordering drinks. There are much better, more reasonably priced, and less pretentious places to eat in Rehoboth. One we particularly like is Big Fish Grill on Rt. 1. It doesn't have that boardwalk feel, but it has fantastic, fresh seafood, good prices, and great service. And, you can eat outside. Ah, but alas, there are no holes in the floor to fall thru.

“Should be renamed "The Salt Shaker"”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2011

We had heard many good things about this restaurant and having tried many upscale restaurants in the past 4 years we visited Rehoboth we decided to try this highly recommended one. The restaurant is a charming place tucked back in an alley in the center of town. The food was almost not edible. It tasted like the chef opened his salt shaker and poured the entire contents on the plate. I didn't want to say anything at first because it is a pricey restaurant but then my husband looked at me and told me he could not eat his food as it was full of salt. We left most of our meals-did not have dessert and left the restaurant. The waitress was very nice and made wonderful suggestions but the food was horrible. It was an awful experience.

“Do not go if you are not a regular.”

Very pretentious service. Food good but not worth the steep price. If you are not a regular you are treated very poorly.

“Superb but Very Expensive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2011

I posted the review below on the Delaware Restaurants pages just the other day, but then realized that it might be more useful to visitors to Rehoboth Beach if it was posted on the Rehoboth Restaurants pages as well:
"This past week, our party of 5 adults (a couple of them very picky foodies) and two little children had a superb meal al fresco there to celebrate a 40th birthday. Everything we had--appetizers, salads, entrees, desserts--was superbly prepared and very well served by an attentive and gracious staff. The beer and wine selections were wonderful as well. In a town blessed with great restaurants, this restaurant truly stands out for its consistent quality over the years. A definite "must" during your time in Rehoboth Beach. Just keep in mind that quality is expensive. Bring the plastic and enjoy the experience!"
