We had great expectations for dinner, as we had fond memories of our first visit from our previous trip to Bethany a coupl of years back. This time around, though, we left with mixed feelings.

First, the strong points:
Friendly service, cozy atmosphere in a charming house.
Seared scallops done just right.
Salmon was excellent, very generous portion.
Imaginative cuisine for sides and appetizers, such as the quinoa tabouleh salad.
Good wine list, we enjoyed different wines by the glass.

Downsides
Stale bread, is it because it is gluten-free?
Steak sold as Filet mignon definitely was not a filet mignon cut. Asked for medium rare, was served overcooked.

We stopped in just for some iced tea one afternoon and started looking at the dinner menu. Everything looked really delicious, then the staff told us that everything is made in house all the way down to the mayonnaise! we decided to come back for dinner and we were really happy we did! The salads were excellent, the clams casino were outstanding and the entrees were truly great. Even the vegetables that were served with our meals were cooked to perfection and scrumptious. The staff is friendly and attentive and the wine list is fairly extensive for a place like this. All in all we will definitely be back to The Cafe again!

Love this restaurant! The food is fresh and yummy! However, plan on being there awhile.
They are very understaffed, albeit pleasant!

Food very well prepared. Emphasis on Delmarva cuisine. Efficient and friendly service. Very comfortable dining room and porch. I highly recommend having dinner here. Everything worth trying, my most recent entree, seared rare sesame encrusted yellow fin tuna with wasabi and soy reduction was insanely good.

I always go to this restaurant when I go to the beach and am never disappointed. This is the only restaurant that I know of where the owner also has Celiac Disease and understands the needs of her customers to have gluten-free meals from the appetizers, entree, dessert to hand made gluten free breakfast items. She has regular food for other people too. This is an upscale restaurant for casual attire where if you're ordering whatever kind of entree and mashed potatoes comes with it, its mashed potatoes from Yukon Gold potatoes! They serve seafood, poultry, beef, pork with your choice of sides which are expertly prepared. Plus cocktails and dessert are to die for! I had the best gluten free warm peach pie with vanilla ice cream for dessert. It was fabulous. Can not go to the beach without stopping here!
