“Inexperienced/Untrained Wait Staff Ruin the Evening”
Reviewed January 13, 2014

I have been to Yi Palace 4x in the last few months - 2x take out, 2x dine in. Food quality swings wildly from excellent to I threw it out. Clueless, harried servers are a constant "poor rating" having no training in serving guests, interacting normally with diners, or understanding English. Honestly, the service is bizarre. Ordering water with lemon will get you four tall glasses of HOT water. Requests for the most widely known beer in China (Tsingtao) was met with a blank stare - an unsmiling interpreter was called in. Dishes arrived lukewarm. Two requests for cutlery were ignored. Plates piled up on our crowded table. Every now and then, the owner would pop into the dining room, but did not say a word to anyone or lift a finger to assist his two servers. Will I be back? No. Bamboo House nearby is a much better choice for food and especially for service.

“Thought that this place was supposed to be good...”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

We ate there recently. Staff was nice and accommodating and the menu looked interesting, filled with authentic-looking stuff like beef tendon and pig intestine as well as more prosaic Chinese stuff. Place was filled with Asians which we thought to be promising.

Service was not up to US standards. One main came out...then an app...then a while later another main.

One of the main dishes was fine, well cooked and nicely enough presented. The appetizer, fried dumplings was a sad affair. Dumplings were full-sized but had a little pellet of unseasoned meat rattling around inside. It was maybe 25% filled. The other main, General Tso's chicken (I know, I know, its not authentic) was horribly overcooked and the chicken was dry and wooden. Although it was labeled as a spicy dish and had chilis in it, there was no hint of heat.

Maybe they do a better job on other dishes, but this was a meal ruined by the worst Chinese food I've ever had. No exaggeration.
