I dragged my girlfriend along on an overnight business trip to Newark, Delaware. We decided to have a casual dinner near our hotel (Homewood Suites). Based on a quick search, it looked like Matilda's would fit the bill.
It was a Friday night, and the parking lot was full. When we went in, we could hear that there was live music on the tavern side. That's where the crowd was. Since we were looking for a table in the dining room, we only had to wait for a few minutes.
I ordered a bowl of chili and the blackened shrimp caesar salad. My date ordered the buffalo chicken mac n' cheese.
The chili was way above average. Very flavorful--I detected some smokiness and a hint of curry. It was inventive without straying too far from being chili.
The shrimp caesar salad was good but not amazing. The shrimp was tasty, but it didn't look blackened.
My date loved her buffalo chicken mac n' cheese. It was well-presented, and the portion was huge (half of it is sitting in the fridge of our hotel room).
The service was friendly and fairly prompt.
The prices were reasonable for the quality, so it was a good value.
I would eat here again.
