This is the third or fourth time we have stayed at this Embassy Suites over the past 5 years. It is really starting to look worn and in need of fresh paint/new furniture/and thorough cleaning. Like one of the other reviewers, the first thing we noticed when we opened the door of this "nonsmoking" room was the strong odor of stale cigarette smoke. This was somewhat improved by turning on the air, but overall air quality was poor in the room; my daughter and husband coughed quite a bit during our two-night stay. Sofa was very worn out; some stains on carpeting and sofa. Either Embassy Suites as a chain is slipping from past quality or it is just an issue at this location. Not certain if we would stay here again, but location is convenient

Nice, clean, friendly Embassy Suites hotel. Great staff at breakfast and it was convenient that, since we were traveling from the north down south, there was a Fridays attached to the hotel. Typical of the atrium style Embassy Suites, the fact that there were two events being held in the lobby area meant that it was noisy up in the living room part of the hotel room. We couldn't hear the noise in the bedroom though. Breakfast was typical Embassy Suites stuff and not overly crowded.

We stayed here overnight for an event at the University of Delaware. Proximity to the university and main interstate made this a convenient choice, but the property itself didn't seem up to usual Embassy Suites standards. Rooms were clean but average, and the bathroom was a bit cramped.

Staff was polite, but not necessarily friendly or overly helpful. The food at breakfast and the manager's reception was nothing special. The serving area tended to stay messy, with food items mixing in with each other.

The pool area was small, and at the time of our visit, the jacuzzi was empty and closed off to access. The fitness center was small and uncomfortably warm - even though I was the only person exercising in the space.

Overall, this Embassy Suites met my family's needs for the weekend, but we'd probably consider other close-by properties before staying here again.

The lobby was nice enough, except for the absence of a cover over the elevator shaft. When we walked into our nonsmoking room, on a nonsmoking floor, there was a distinct stench of old cigarette smoke. To me there is nothing worse than finding a hair that isn't yours in the shower....except, of course, finding one in your bed. I found them in both places. The room was a decent size, with an actual door to the bedroom, was was dark. Both the sofa and the floor had stains--a dark spot on one of the cushions and a reddish/brownish on the carpet. Between the bed and the night table, I found a green Mike and Ike's and a pair of black sunglasses, neither of which belonged to me.

There is a TGIFridays attached to the hotel, but when we asked to order drinks and take them back to our room, we were told the hotel had their own liquor license and we'd need to get it from them. We had to return to our room and order room service, which can only bring wine and/or beer. The young man who brought our wine was delightful (I'm too old to remember his name.) If you want room service food, that does come from TGIFridays.

They do serve a full buffet breakfast. Don't bother drinking the coffee. The steel cut oatmeal was good, The hard boiled eggs were rubbery. My partner had a to so warm biscuit and a bland egg white frittata. There were other options such as fresh fruit, waffles and dry cereal (that looked like they lived in their plastic receptacles way longer than their "best used by" dates. Our son grabbed a danish which he ate on the run.

The best part about this property is it's proximity to University of Delaware, even if you can only make a right turn out of the parking lot and the University is to the left and there isn't a U turn in sight.

I am looking forward to visiting our son at University of Delaware several times over the next few years. I will not be staying at Embassy Suites again.

Room Tip: Don't.

We stopped here for one night while we were traveling from NC to NY. I will start with the good. The hotel itself is nice and check in was very quick and easy. The room was a nice size (1 bedroom suite) and very clean. The staff seemed friendly. The workout room looked very nice but we werent there long enough to enjoy it.

Now the bad. When we tried to turn on the TV in the bedroom it didnt work. We then discovered that half of the outlets in the bedroom were not working- including the outlet that the lamp was plugged in to. We called the front desk and they sent someone up to fix the TV. It took an hour for them to come up with a "solution" to make the TV work, and that was to run an extension cord from the TV in the bedroom all the way out to an outlet near the bathroom. This is not ideal but we dealt with it since we were only going to be there for one night.
The pool was FILTHY. Disgusting. The water was so cloudy you could hardly see the bottom and there was clumps of hair floating all over the pool. They didnt have the filter running at all the entire time we were there. I was almost 100 degrees outside and we were really looking forward to going swimming after a long day of traveling but that didnt happen.
Breakfast was so-so, just your normal hotel breakfast, nothing special.
Overall, I am not sure if we will stay here again. We really liked the room until we discovered that half of the bedroom had no power. The pool situation is just unacceptable. When we are traveling in the car all day, we look forward to getting to burn some energy off in the pool (especially when it is the middle of summer!). So to have a pool in that condition will definitely make me think twice about staying here again.
