“Our favorite local resturant”
Reviewed July 7, 2012 via mobile

We have followed Ray and Lisa Richardson for years and where happy when they opened The Kitchen in Paynters Mill.
Ray comes up with some very unique dishes like sweetbreads , and due to popular demand keeps meatloaf on the menu every night they are open. We take all of our beach guests to The Kitchen, as we have never been disappointed, except when they are closed. It's a family run and Lisa will make you feel at home every time. Great drinks and a nice wine list round out a great visit.

“The Very Freshest of Foods Cooked Expertly”
Reviewed June 23, 2012

The Chef is a graduate of the Culinary Institute and insists on the freshest of local seafood and vegtables. The menu while not large consisted of a good variety of items, i.e. enchiladas, crabcakes, meatloaf, fresh seafood. I enjoyed a chargrilled mahimahi and seared scallops which were served with grilled artichokes, and corn. Desserts included homemade layered coconut cake served with white chocolate, kiwi, freshly whipped cream and several black berries. A little noisey in the restaurant which would benefit from sound barriers in the atrium ceiling but the service was fast and friendly.

“There is room for improvement”
Reviewed April 5, 2012

We had heard really good things about The Kitchen and looked forward to our first dinner visit.
We first shared the calamari. It was a good sized portion with a too hot (spicy hot) to eat sauce on the side. The calamari had too much breading on it, much too much, so that you were eating fried breading rather than tasting calamari. For main courses we had the pork enchilada with black beans and the chicken pot pie. The enchilada was quite good. On the other hand, the chicken pot pie was disappointing. The chicken chunks in the broth had no taste and were a little tough,. like they were pieces of chicken that had been first used to make broth. The small amount of vegetables in the broth consisted of canned, or frozen peas and carrots and a few strings of might have been spinach. What would have been so hard to use some fresh vegetables in this preparation?

Also, be warned. The bar is in the same room as the dining room. If you have a few "bar people" who feel that they are in a bar and must talk loudly to each other, you will have a difficult time having a normal conversation with your table mates. The acoustics are not good in here.
