Meding's has been around for years, and being a local, I am ashamed to say I never tried it. I always head straight to the beach for seafood. Well, no more! This place is fantastic. Seared tuna was succulent and melted in my mouth. Best I have had anywhere and it's my favorite along with salmon so I eat it a lot. Crabs were juicy and tasty, corn fresh and sweet. The carrot soufle delicious. The service was prompt and courteous. Seating is inside or out. All this place needs to complete it is the ocean! So if you are heading to the beach and you see the restaurant give it a try. You will not be disappointed and you will have a great meal and avoid the crowds and wait time at the beach. It also has a fresh fish market.

Overpriced, small portions, either undercooked or over cooked. King feast for 25$ is a waste. You get a "generous portion". It consisted of 4 overcooked fried shrimp, 3 spongy scallops, ONE frozen Tyson chicken tender, ONE small piece of over greasy fish, ONE under cooked super greasy crab cake, and literally 10 fries. Flounder platter had bad taste and under cooked. Worst experience ever. Not worth the time or money!

We have driven by this restaurant a few times and will continue to drive past. The quality of food is poor and portions are small. The ambience is not comparable to so many other restaurants in the area. If you are looking for good seafood this is not the place. Be smart and choose another place to eat. This area is rich with great restaurants.

Passing thru the area on a Saturday night we deviced to stop based on the appearance of the place.
Service was good, beer was cold, staff very friendly but the food was disappointing.
The butterfly shrimp was small and not much flavor. The fries were greasy. Despite large shrimp in the display case the steamed shrimp were small.
On a positive note, the cream of crab soup was killer.
I would probably not stop there again.

My wife and I travel from Jersey to the Virginia Beach area on a regular basis, and stopping at Meding & Son is a familiar, and much anticipated stop. The seafood is always fresh and well prepared, the restaurant clean, and the staff is friendly. On our most recent visit with both had the battered soft shell crab sandwich: the crab was delicious, perfectly battered and just the right amount of seasoning. The Old Bay fries are addictive: overeating these will surely wreck your diet. On previous visits we have enjoyed the crab cakes ( moist and delicious) or the oysters, which, again, were just right. We were a bit mystified, though, on our most recent visit: we asked that our soft shells be delivered without the bread, and we were told that we couldn't get them this way. We discarded the bread (we think it just distracts from the crabs), but that is a minor thing.
You should (ahem!) plan your trip to the bathroom. There is only one bathroom for each gender. On the most recent visit a customer tied up one of the lavatories, making it a bit uncomfortable for other guests.
