One would be hard pressed to call Middletown DE a cultural mecca or foodie destination. Given this, I was surprised when I stumbled upon Nhu Vu this fall while driving through town. Living in Maryland, I currently work in many of the large metro areas in the MidAtlantic states. Hence, I've eaten at quite a few great and a few not so good Vietnamese restaurants.....Nhu Vu thankfully, ranks at the top of the list.

Their Pho is consistently outstanding and Bun Bo Hue has forced me to jump in the car and drive 45 minutes to satiate a deep down craving for the perfect bowl of spicy and savory broth, noodles and tender cuts of meat.

The service is friendly and consistent, and the prices are outstanding. If you are a self proclaimed Pho aficionado...GO.. you won't be disappointed. If you are tired of Middletown's chain restaurant options and want to try something different...jump in headfirst without hesitation. A great bowl of Vietnamese soup on a cold night can be a religious experience. Nhu Vu will deliver you to a higher place!

Went there for lunch yesterday really wanting a noodle bowl. Lets keep it short.
It was WATER with noodles in it. Tasteless. And to top it off they use what I call "plastic chicken" better known as processed chicken - no wonder the soup water was tasteless. It does not take long to make a big pot of chicken broth or beef broth every day. Come on. My husband had pretty much the same experiece, he had the Curry Noodle Bowl. It was curry and WATER. And when we told the waitress about it she had NO response (I really don't think she cared about her customers) My bet is she never even told the manager. The plate of seasonings was nice but not enough to add any flavor.
We left everything.

This is the sister restaurant to Pho Nhu Vu in Newark, Delaware. This restaurant is much bigger and has a much larger selection of menu choices. There are daily specials, and luncheon specials under $6.00. We love this restaurant. We love Pho, and it is wonderful for us to now have to drive half the distance to get our favorite meal. Pho is basically a Vietnamese soup, but soup like you have never had before. Imagine a fragrant and tasty broth, chock filled with noodles, meatballs (if you want them) numerous kinds of meat (of your choice), fresh cilantro, fresh lime slices, fresh bean sprouts, piled high on a plate waiting for you to customize your soup to your taste. Pho is not spicy unless you add the various bowls of hot sauces on the table. This is a complete and filling meal. We always get the #45, which has tendon, tripe, fatty flank, brisket, etc., but you can start with a simple steak pho. The appetizers are very tasty as well, I recommend the beef in roasted grape leaves. The Vietnamese sandwiches are also very delicious. Oh, you also must try the Thai Iced Tea with bubbles, a favorite.

As the other reviewer has stated, all of the wait staff here is very friendly, always greets you with a smile, and the owner, Tu. is usually on hand to make sure you are enjoying your meal. The restaurant itself is spotless. This is our very favorite place to dine in Delaware. Recommended most highly.

As Middletown, Delaware continues to grow, more dining choices are being made available to us. Nhu Vu is an exceptional Vietnamese Restaurant located in one of the relatively large shopping centers with plenty of parking. The wait staff was extremely friendly and was helpful in explaining the many menu choices.

This was our third dining experience at Nhu Vu and found it to be just as pleasant as the first time. The décor is peaceful, the restaurant is spotless, and the overall feel is relaxing. It has a full bar with a TV, an exceptional menu that provides some new experiences for your taste buds, along with some familiar choices, such as varieties of eggrolls, etc. They have many vegetarian choices, along with dishes that include chicken, beef, fish, etc. They have interesting specialty drinks, smoothies and Bubble Tea (which we plan to try next time).

The selections are excellent. For an appetizer, we chose Baby Shrimp Rolls which included four fried eggrolls with shrimp and minced pork with a light, sweet sauce, which was perfectly fried (not greasy). Our choice of beverage was a light, favorable plum wine. For our main courses, we chose Spicy Chicken with lemongrass with white rice and Chicken Noodle Soup. The Spicy Chicken was not overly spicy and included excellent, crisply cooked vegetables. There are two portion sizes to choice from for the soup (other than as an appetizer), with a price difference of $1.00. We chose the $7.25 size bowl, which was about 28 ounces, with plenty to take home. The broth was crystal clear, with an ample amount of large, thinly sliced chicken and noodles. If you like basil, you will love the taste of this soup, which we were told was cooked for hours to get the perfect taste.

They have an exceptional lunch menu, which we tried on a previous occasion. The lunch specials ($5.99-$6.99) includes soup. The portions were generous and, between the two of us, we had enough to take home for another meal.
