We spent one night at the Zwaanendael Inn on Second Street (the main street) in Lewes before we took the ferry over to Cape May. We rent a house for the month of April, but this was the first time of staying during the summer season. We were pleased that the town was quiet. We booked a small room and it was very small -space for one suitcase, but it was very pleasant for one night. This room did not have a television (a plus) and the whole hotel seems like a throwback to earlier times. Reminded us of hotels in Europe. Tiny evelvator. The room rate included a full breakfast. The hotel sits right across the street from King's ice cream, open till 11 pm and doing a great business. (I love their ice cream.) I had a chance to shop a bit before we met friends for dinner and enjoyed the August sales and no sales tax. Much more pleasant than the outlet malls. Lewes is a lovely town and we were very pleased with this hotel. Would not recommend it for children though.
