“Gem of a town. Away from hustle and bustle of the beach”

Lewes is a lovely town at the beach and not a beach town. It has a library, hospital, university, museum as well as a beach, state park and great stores and restaurants.

There is a Breakwater trail that runs from Lewes to Rehobeth that you can hike, run or bike on and get off of Route 1.

There is a beach that is the bay (no waves for the little ones) or Henlopen State Park which has beaches with waves.

No boardwalks just quiet beaches. Lovely.

At Cape Henlopen State Park you can borrow a bike at the Nature Center for 2 hours with a deposit of your drivers license. Great deal and fun. Flat roads and a bike path too.

The Pier here is REALLY NICE!!! Went here with a Big Church Group and had a GREAT TIME!!! You can catch Spot, Blue Fish, Croaker, Flounder, Puffer Fish Crabs and Sharks!
If you stay long enough you might get the odd chance of seeing a Dolphin jump out of the water! It's Fresh Water & Salt Water! Bring your own Chair, Cooler with your Food,Snacks & Favorite Drinks , a couple of Fishing Poles and RELAX East Coast Style! If Fishing aint your thing the Sand here is VERY soft and welcoming.....Kick off your shoes and go to it!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

For older persons Lewes is great. Quiet, good food and good shopping. The night life is lacking but if your one that enjoys strolling and checking out a town this is it.

We went there on our recent camping trip to Cape Henlopen State Park. This is on the bay side of the cape, so the waves are gentle. This is a beautiful beach and a nice alternative to the ocean. There was a lot of public parking available. Recommended.

Waves are gentle here so parents can relax while the kids play in the water. Sand is soft and clean. Saw plenty of sea gulls. We went in the evening when there were few people around which meant plenty of free parking and plenty of space on the beach. Unfortunately we couldn't stay longer because this excursion was part of of my day trip. Can't wait to go back with my kids again.
