Our sunny morning at Cape Henlopen State Park ($8.00 for an out-of-state registered vehicle at an ocean park) included visits to the Nature Center and Fort Miles, a round of disc golf, and a walk along the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our first time in one of Delaware’s many state parks, and I suspect that CHSP is an untapped resource for out-of-towners who crowd Delaware’s more well-known beaches.

Horseshoe crabs, dolphins, big WW2 gun. The visitors center has great touch tank and aquarium. See a seahorse up close. The free bikes are a big plus though many are run down, you can't beat free!

Beautiful beaches but camping site is disgusting full of ticks and showering facilities horrid! I ended up with two ticks on me and two takes on my dog two of which were deer ticks carrying possible Lyme disease. They don't advertise that they no longer do tick treatments. We never wandered off our camp site into the woods but due to lack of upkeep of camping facilities ticks were/are everywhere.

There is always something to do at Cape Henlopen! In addition to the beach you can visit the Nature Center. There you can take a free class, go on a guided hike, use the touch tank, sign up for saining in the bay, rent a bike for FREE, play frisbee golf or shop for souvenirs. The nature center has a terrific book collection!
There is an ocean side and bay side in the park. We enjoy both. Children will have a memorable experience - add a little adventure to your beach day-stop at the nature center and check out the daily schedule.

There are a handful of places on the east coast that are 'headclearing' Cape Henlopen State Park off-season is one. In the fall you will share the expansive beach with an occasional surfcaster and an abundance of frolicking dolphins - that's just the right mix! And the promise of spring is delightful on the tip of the Cape where you will enjoy a sweeping vista of the bay and the ocean. Easy walking beaches close to Lewes - hours of relaxation and solitude. A great place to relax. I cannot speak for the summer season - we tend not to visit the shore when everyone else does!
