Great venue for holidaymakers with pooches. 4 legged friends welcomed whole-heartedly. Periodically a waitress wanders around with a few biscuits for each dog. Now don't let me mislead you into thinking this is a glorified dogs world. There are two bars each with a good selection of real ales- some of which are brewed on the premises. There is an extensive food menu with a good number of additional "blackboard specials". We called in three times during our week's holiday and on one particulate occasion fancied the salad but couldn't choose between the cheese or ham, the very helpful bar an ensured that I got a half and half. I must say that the presentation was a delight, almost too pretty to eat. What a delight. Children are welcome here also although not in the immediate bar area and dogs are not allowed in one of the bars. I believe there are also 8 letting bedrooms. a couple we met in the bar said they were very happy with their accommodation and would certainly come back. We didn't come across the Watermill Inn by chance, we too came by recommendation and we are so glad someone told us about it!

This is our 4th visit here, mainly for the beers! We always enjoy the drinks but food can be hit and miss, however on this occasion I have to say it was very good. Not a peak time to visit but still people around. Burger was very good as was the fish pie, cheese board very plentiful! Will now return looking forward to the food as well.

We were so impressed with this place we cancelled a room in another place to stay here after stopping for lunch on our way to Ambleside. We ate twice during our stay and it was lovely, great food, great beer and friendly staff. the accommodation wasn't cheap but it was good value and I have to say after 10K of Wandsfell Pike you hardly notice where you're sleeping! All of the crucial elements were there - clean, warm, good shower and nice and quiet. It's not romantic weekend Way accommodation but we were more than happy with what we got. The only reason this review didn't get the full 5 stars was because of breakfast. The morning staff compared to the afternoon and evening were really quite different, in fact we couldn't believe it was the same place. After being ignored for 10 minutes at breakfast the rather rude woman came to the table holding a pad and pen and said nothing, she just looked at us waiting for us to say something.... I think! It was really quite funny in a way.... That said some people may jot be quite as light hearted as me and giggle it off so thought it worth mentioning. Overall, very good and would definitely visit again - highly recommend the olden Retriever and Beef and CollyWobbles pie! Yum!

They brew their own beer here and offer this plus many alternative Lakeland brews. We tried the Collie Wobbles as this was the lightest option and we weren't disappointed. Great pub food too with an extensive menu to chose from. We have been here on and off over many years and have also tried the B&B - never been even slightly disappointed. Recommended.

We visited this pub twice in late June on a visit to the Lake District as were staying in a B&B within walking distance.
The real ale choices and quality was fantastic and the ale the pub brews itself was really good.
In addition the pub food was very good and their fish and chips was just right not too oily.

On the second night we were there Fiona (Music in the Lakes) was playing her acoustic guitar and singing there. We did not expect that much but were really bowled over by her playing. She insisted on taking requests from everyone in the pub and knew most songs - the words and arrangements which was really amazing. In the end she had the whole pub singing along. She had a really good , sweet voice.
