“Quiet, comfortable and well equipped”

We were here for a long weekend to meet up with other family. The cottage was clean and well equipped, including fresh milk in the fridge, and the beds were comfortable. The location is good - within walking distance of an excellent pub - as it's not too far from Penrith and very close to Lazonby where there is a co-op for breakfast supplies.

“A view from a bikers perspective !”

Just to offer a different perspective on the merits of Garth cottage.
3 friends and I booked our 4 night break in Garth cottage with a view to spending the break touring around the Eden Valley, Lake District and West Yorkshire, with that in mind the location was utterly superb as access into all of those areas is so easy from the cottages and added to that the routes in and out of the area are so picturesque.
I had contacted the owner John about the let and that we were on motorcycles as this in itself can present problems not least of which is the kit we travel with.
John was very approachable and not in the least bit fazed by our modes of transport, He made us very welcome despite waiting until gone 10.30 p.m for us to arrive, taking time to show us in and around and making sure we had all we needed before letting us setlle in for the night, it could not have been handled better.
John continued throughout our stay being being helpful and approachable but equally leaving us to our own devices, a trait that is wholly commendable and left us comfortable with the care he took.
Leaving the fact that we travel on motorcycles out of this from now on the rest of the review about our stay.
The cottage/s are located down a secluded but easily accessible lane from the village, and they present themsleves in a quaint attractive setting that lets you know that you are somewhere special.
Our cottage, Garth, is fairly large sleeping 6 in 1 double,1 twin and 2 single rooms all of which are plenty big enough with large amounts of wardrobe and cupboard space, The 2 singles located on the ground floor. The bathroom with Bath, over bath shower, etc are also on the ground floor as is the seperate shower room., there is also an additional wash room upstairs serving the twin and double rooms.
Sleep wise we all found the beds too firm for our liking, however this is personal viewpoint !
The lounge/diner/kitchen is a spacious room and lends itself very much to mingling and chatting as meals are prepared, we all found it a very comfortable and pleasant area to be in and around, a great social area, there is also a log burner in the lounge area which John provides plentiful supplies of logs for your use.
Outside there is a large garden area with benches for relaxing on and great views over the surrounding countryside and in addition there is also a laundry room on site for your use.
Moving away from the cottage but so worth a mention is the local hostelry, The Highland Drove, it is a charming pub not 200metres away, warm in it's welcome of strangers and offering excellent choices of real ales as well as the lagers should you choose, they also carry a rather acceptable wine list.
The food here is really very very good as was the service, both from the barstaff, waitress' and the owner who came over every night and took time out to chat, As a package it made the whole experience memorable .
In closing, I would also refer you to a previous posted comment which states something along the lines of " if you are looking for a place to write that book" , this pretty well sums up the peace and quiet,,,,, the silence is gloriously deafening..
Would Wetheral Cottages be somwhere I would take my family to for a holiday????,,,,,,,, without doubt yes ! and I look forward to the opportunity.

“Lovely cottages, great location”

We booked this with a week to spare, and John the owner was helpful and responsive on the phone and my email. On arrival we (family of 5, including 1 child) were delighted with our cottage (Grant?), especially the large lounge/kitchen/diner - well equipped and spotlessly clean, and the gardens.

The whole cottage very clean and well equipped - location perfect for daily trips to the Lakes, village is peaceful with gorgeous views and countryside around. Highly recommended, great for children with park just a few minutes down the road too.
