“What a Great Place to Stay”
Reviewed January 27, 2017 for a stay in November 2016

Lovejoy Cottage must be regarded as one of the best cottages we have ever had the pleasure stay in. We wanted for nothing. The place is well furnished and equipped with all the comforts of your own home.

It was a warm and cosy welcoming cottage in exceptional clean condition, tastefully furnished and in an excellent location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales. It is situated in the pleasant village of Embsay which has its own steam railway. The town of Skipton is but 5 minutes drive away and Harrogate, Ilkley and Leeds are within in easy reach.

“What a wonderful find”
Reviewed November 18, 2016 for a stay in October 2016

We spent 5 nights in the beautiful Lovejoy Cottage in October 2016. We felt privileged to be able to stay at Lovejoy, which is the owners own residence for part of the year. The love and thought they have put into the cottage is there to see and feel.
An ideal base for walking in the Dales or into Skipton to walk the canal. It couldn't be a better location.
Then as evening fell a few strides across the road to the Elm Tree Inn to sample their menu and hospitality. Wonderful
We Will Be Back!!

“Gorgeous cottage in a great location”
Reviewed November 9, 2016 for a stay in May 2016

We thought we were onto a good thing just based on the communication with David before we even arrived in the UK. We were not disappointed. The cottage was sparkling clean and had everything we could wish for to make our stay comfortable. The "handbook" was really helpful for us Canadians - washers are really different in the UK than here! Rob the caretaker was super to deal with and made sure we knew where everything was. Couldn't ask for a better location. Easy drives to Skipton, Howarth, Bolton Abbey and a very welcoming pub on the doorstep. We'd go back in a heartbeat!

“Idyllic home from home on the doorstep of the Dales”
Reviewed September 25, 2016 for a stay in September 2016

I felt compelled to write this review on the basis that this accommodation was so wonderful for our recent 5 night visit to Yorkshire and I believe it is truly worth my time to put a few words together. It may not look that remarkable from the outside, but inside it is a little palace, welcoming and most definitely homely. I think the thing that set this accommodation apart from others that we've stayed in is that it is someone's home - I gather the owners live there when it's not rented out. As such, rather than being the bare shell with a few cheap ornaments and basic furniture to make it appear bearable for a short stay, it is rich with features and those little touches that really make you feel comfortable. The reason for it being called "Lovejoy Cottage" becomes very apparent as you explore each of the rooms in this interesting and characterful property, with love-hearts aplenty everywhere, creating a very romantic atmosphere. The rooms are all ample, if not spacious, with more than sufficient facilities throughout. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms (one en-suite to the main bedroom), lounge, kitchen/diner - all quaint in their own way, with tasteful decor (to our tastes anyway). The electric "aga" style cooker/oven foxed us a little bit, having never used one before, but it did its job for the basic heating/cooking we wanted to do. The bed was sumptuous and comfy too and it’s unbelievable quiet at night – something we’re not used to (although they appear to have the noisiest bin-men I've ever heard come round early one morning of the week!). Even the shower in the main bathroom was great, with a quality electric shower and fittings to match. The wi-fi worked a treat, as did the telly and the remote controls for the lighting was a nice touch (just remember to leave the remote by the door if you’re returning to the property after night-fall!). We didn’t make use of the supplied BBQ or the Bose sound docks – both features you wouldn’t normally expect in holiday homes.

As for the location, we couldn’t have asked for better. It’s literally right across the road from the village pub, which although sizeable and obviously well supported by the locals, wasn’t noisy or obtrusive in any way to our stay. The staff there were very welcoming and friendly and the food was what I’d call basic British pub-grub – no frills but satisfying and tasty - and not overly priced. There’s also another, more basic and smaller pub within walking distance down the road with a similar menu and pricing. The cottage is no more than 10 minutes drive into Skipton town centre, which we loved – a thriving, bustling market town, with endless coffee shops and tearooms to choose from. There’s the castle and neighbouring church with magnificent gardens surrounding both. Then of course you’re right on the doorstep of the Yorkshire Dales, which presented us with endless breathtaking views on the day we toured around them - we used the drivethedales.com website to guide us through some great routes taking in the main highlights, including a truly idyllic picnic spot on some natural stones by the roadside high on the side of a hill overlooking Malham and miles and miles of stunning open countryside. York is an easy drive away too – well worth a visit, as is Harrogate.

We wanted a homely base to complement our relaxing short break away the humdrum of working life with the sort of landscape that is good for the soul. Lovejoy Cottage fitted the bill perfectly. I've a feeling we will return there one day to continue our exploration of Yorkshire.
