“Great family town, nice resort”
Reviewed May 12, 2014

I have been coming down to Sea Colony for the past twenty years with my family. I love the relaxed pace of the town, the beautiful clean beach, as well as the cute little shops and restaurants in downtown Bethany. Over the summer, downtown Bethany has live music and outdoor dancing on weekends. Bethany is also a great jumping off point to the louder, more busy Ocean City Boardwalk and Rehobeth areas. Sea Colony itself is a nice resort with many outdoor pools surrounding the different condo areas, as well as ample tennis courts and local restaurants. We also enjoy the two small but modern fitness centers that have good equipment. From Northern NJ, it is a bit of a trek, but taking the ferry from Cape May to Lewes (reserve in advance) makes for a nice break from the travel and is a fun thing for families to do on the way.

Room Tip: can rent on the tennis community side for less. There's no ocean view, but much larger spaces f...

Ever since I was 2 years old, my parents have been taking me to Bethany Beach, and we have we have always come here. One year, my parents decided I could bring my friend. We had so much fun! What we most enjoyed about Sea Colony is:
- Easy Candy Kitchen visits
-Close access to the beach
-Delicious food from the deli
-Spacious rooms
-TV for watching shows and movies
-Everyone was very kind and generous
-Private pool

I am now 36 and have been taking my 5, 9, and 12 year olds ever since they were born, because Sea Colony is perfect for all ages!

Room Tip: Edge Water is closest to the deli and pool which is convenient. Also, platinum or gold rooms are bes...

My family has been coming to Sea Colony in Bethany for the last 35+ years. We have seen the resort grow from a few beach front buildings into the sprawling Beach and Tennis communities. We always stay on the ocean side, usually in the same group of condos every year. The Ocean side has 5 outdoor and 1 indoor pool on the decks between the buildings and the beach. The indoor pool also has a whirlpool. The beach is easily accessible and only a minute walk from the condos. The majority of the units have beautiful ocean views.

Room Tip: I prefer the Beach Community as the Tennis community requires you to ride a shuttle to get to the be...

We as a couple are here in November. The beautiful beach right out our window from this property is barren except for an occasional jogger, couple, shell collector or dog and owner. What peace from the summertime. The indoor pool located in the Edgewater is a short walk from our 9th floor Brandywine one bedroom rental. We rented this one because of the fireplace we have going every night. Last year we stayed (one week after sandy) at the Dover house, second floor. Both are different, look at the VRBO (owner direct) and the Resort Quest sites, look at the pictures and the prices, (off season are GREAT) but not much is open on the weekdays in Bethany Beach, (except some great restaurants), go for a swim and then get a book and relax. Or drive up to Rehoboth or down to Ocean City. Once you find a rental you think you may like, in your search engine type in the address (900 Brandywine etc.) and type in video, you tube is loaded with a under 3 minute capture of many rooms. The videos we saw do represent the properties and the contents. If you do come here, please keep the place you rent clean, for the next renter and owner, report damage. We originally wanted to stay a week here (price is less for a week stay), but many weekends are booked, The owner was nice enough to give us the daily week rate for the 5 days we are here. Don't know if all would do that. Seeing the sun come up over the Atlantic makes you feel that you are the first to see a new day in our country.{Bring a good pair of binoculars (our condo was equipped) to see the schools of dolphins going by each day.

Room Tip: You can bring all you luggage and extras in one load, the resort has great wheeled bins by the eleva...

My family has gone here every single year starting before I was even born. I have gone every year of my life (I'm 27). This place is like my second home I look forward to going every year. To start with you stay right on the beach. There are beautiful views! The beach is clean, you can walk down it (or on the street) into town. It is literally maybe a half mile. In town there is a boardwalk with shops and food. Mangos is a great place to eat or get drinks. Then there is Mickey's crab house within walking distance as well with amazing food. The condo's are lovely, some are better than others. But we stay in Chesapeake 201 it wraps a corner so you have 2 views. There are exercise classes you can go to, tennis to play, and fishing too. Edgewater is the only one with an indoor pool and hottub--it used to be open late now it closes at 10 I think.

Room Tip: 2nd floor is great you can see the beach but ppl cant see into your condo at night

We opened the door to a messy, uncleaned rental unit at check-in time. However, the owner was great about getting a cleaning company in right away to get it ready for us and even told us she'd return our $200 security deposit. So we went to the beach. We had a pretty good stay (2 adults, 3 children) but there were things that needed to be repaired. Lights out, dirty pans that needed to be boiled out before use, a rip in the sofa, a fridge that leaks a good amount of water, etc. And now, we are told via voicemail, that she won't return our security deposit. We made 2 phone calls over a 2 month period to try have her return the money she promised. This is quite disappointing as we have not had any real problems with the owner as the transaction started off great but unfortunately went rapidly downhill. We will be returning to Bethany Beach but definitely not to this unit. This has been quite a disappointment.

Read a few reviews from the summer and we had a very different experience than if we had come in high season and had rented a lower cost unit. September can be lovely and while it was too cold and windy to swim in the ocean, we enjoyed the beach, the indoor pool and the health club. Yes there are lots of rules and they are stritly enforced. But remember you are not in a high end hotel where the staff aim to serve your every need. Sounds like units vary alot here so we rented the top of the line level (which you can request when making your reservation). We most enjoyed having so much space and a full kitchen vs. staying at a hotel where it can be cramped. Front balcony overlooking beach from higher floor was very nice. We're coming back next year but advise newcomers to do their homework and realize you get what you pay for and may want to splurge to be assured of the best of the hundreds of unit at the resort.

Room Tip: high floor with view of the ocean in the more expensive units
