We just got back and found this to be a very nice place. The breakfasts truly are gourmet! Beach chairs, towels, bottled water and soda are available all day, and made beaching it very easy. The staff were very nice and accomodating, but do not expect crisp professionalism.

Just a couple of notes that the website doesn't share - room 11 has a beautiful huge bath but does not have a shower, the website's description of the crew's quarters room's "private half bath" is a bit of a stretch to say the least, and securing valuables is a bit of a problem (but, why are you taking valuables to the beach in the first place?).

We'd stay again, but I'd get room 10: top floor, quiet, GREAT beach views, king bed, full bath with shower.

My wife and I spent a glorious two days at the Addy Sea in early August, 2004. We'd always rented houses in Bethany for a week of family reunion (with families from all up and down the East Coast). But this time we only could spend a couple days, so I went online and found the Addy Sea. It is a beautiful vintage 1900 home, divided into 12 rooms and one funny little area. Full buffet breakfast served daily, and tea and cookies (and lemonade) in the afternoon. Each room has a sink in the room, and either a shower or large (jacuzzi) tub, and of course a toilet. In our room (#4), the toilet was literally in the closet (wherefrom comes the name "water closet.") But the larger (and more expensive) rooms had full bathrooms. Everything clean and well-appointed with real antiques. More than sufficient air-conditioning, but we preferred to open the windows at night to listen to the ocean (which was RIGHT OUTSIDE THE WINDOW). You may pay more, you may pay less, but you'll never find a nicer place to stay on the Delaware Shore than The Addy Sea. By the way, the funny little area is called the "crew's quarters," and contains two double beds, a sink and a semi-private toiled (one of the other reviewers mentioned it). You'll need to use the second floor public bath (just like in old-fashioned B&Bs, but it's about 1/3 the cost of the standard room.) We're definitely going back next year!!!! And if you're hungry, go just a bit North on the main highway from Bethany and stop at RedFin. Wonderful Wonderful food. My wife had the best softshell crabs she's ever eaten, and I had FRIED lobster tails and terrific shrimp dumplings with hot chili oil.

Ever since I was a young child vacationing in Bethany Beach, I have always wanted to look inside The Addy Sea. It is a gorgeous, Victorian seaside Mansion which was built circa 1900. It's history is amazing.
The room in which we stayed was on the third floor, with a specatcular view of the ocean. As with most old houses, the rooms are not huge by today's standards. But we were surprised by how big they were. The bathroom was also a nice size, with a jacuzzi tub and sky light which, when opened, allowed us to hear the surf. The house is in the Victorian style, and to decorate it any other way would detract from it's character. Breakfasts were served buffet style, with plenty of fresh fruits, pastries, hot entrees, hot drinks and juices. Afternoon tea was served daily in the parlor. The staff was friendly without being too intrusive. True, some rooms were a bit nicer than others. But to spend time in a home which has literally stood for over 100 years, and survived hurricanes, northeasters, and two moves from it's original foundation is an experience which I would never trade for a stay in a cookie cutter chain hotel. This house is a standing piece of history, for which I am grateful to now be a small part of.

The beautiful and convenient oceanfront site allows this bed and breakfast to charge an extravagent amount for average rooms. The breakfast and tea are great, the wraparound porch is wonderful. Avoid the uninhabitable room between two floors, which must have been a storage room. Open the door to see the toilet right in front of you; modestly but minimally shielded by swinging barroom style doors.
