“Pub Grub but plenty of it.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2013

It's always busy, and therefore noisy. But the service is usually very good, and the food, good pub grub. It's not comfortable, as the chairs are hard oak pub chairs, and the décor is basic wood tables, but if you want value for money, and plenty of it, you will get it at the Oak. If you are looking for a romantic meal, or fine cuisine don't even go there!

“Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013 via mobile

Went here to celebrate a birthday. Pre-booked a table which is recommended. We visited on a Wednesday and the place was packed. Not enough parking spaces and struggled to find a space in the village. Had to wait for a table despite booking. Staff were friendly and polite throughout the evening. Drinks came quickly. Had to wait for food, but there were several groups in. Food was well worth waiting for. Burgers were huge but very tasty. Suet pudding was far to big for one person! Desserts excellent too. Bit expensive for just pub burgers but meat was good quality. Decor was trying to be old worlde, hops hanging off the beams added a different touch. Enjoyed the meal and friendly interactions with staff. Will return.

“Really surprised there are any bad reviews on here...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

I've eaten here a few times and have never been disappointed. Most recently returned for a family mean on a Tuesday evening, which was as good as ever! We were seated in a quieter area near the bar, which was great as we were having a family catch up and the main restaurant area can get quite loud (although still not bad for a pub!). All food was great and fresh - yes it is pub food but far far better that the average! The portion sizes are enormous though, so prepare yourself for that and maybe avoid a started if you're a dessert person. Service was very friendly and reasonably fast considering they were very busy and the food is always fresh tasting - time flew by anyway as we chatted away and enjoyed the lovely pub atmosphere! Highly recommended!

“Nice food, slow service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013

Visited bank holiday Monday for an early dinner. It was buys but not heaving ...managed to find car spaces for two cars and there were lots of available tables.

Food was ok (burgers huge and quite nice, chips lovely. Piri piri quite dry and their special rice is a bit like the microwaveable rice).

Dessert was lovely too but waited half an hour for a slice of banoffe and two kids ice creams.

Would visit again but without the kids, if slow service is to be expected again!

Oh and the incorrectly billed us for drinks so we had to wait longer for that, and no word of apology for something which was their error.

“Wonderfully tasty food & great service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

We went here, when glamping at Leeds Castle. We popped in on a busy Saturday afternoon, not expecting to get a table. We we served very quickly. Amazing, as it's such a popular place.

We were glad that we didn't order a starter as the portions were enormous. When the menu said that the sausage & mash had large sausages, they were enormous. And absolutely gorgeous. My husband had the ribs and they must have come from an enormous animal. The food was amazing and excellent value for money and, if we're in the area again, we'd definitely go back.

Decor very olde worlde. Staff very chatty and attentive and overall a lovely country pub on the green.
