“good carvery”
Reviewed June 18, 2012

Been in a few times for carvery and it is good for the price but best to wait for them to top it up as sometimes you can see the veg has been sitting for a long time under the hot lamps and the colliflower cheese is very runny but nice pub and always seems busy which is clearly a good sign.

“Good food excellent service bad language”
Reviewed June 15, 2012

Food good, Service excellent, although the language from some males at the bar left a lot to be desired especially as it was early evening. Restaurant area ok but have to pass through bar for toilets, quite intimidating if you have children I would imagine.

“Good pub, good food”
Reviewed April 12, 2012

We went to the Lion for a roast. Carvery catering is easy do badly, overcooked veg sitting for hours, fatty meat, with the 'machine' just churning out food... that's why this pub stood out for me. Clearly care had been taken to make sure food was perfectly cooked, meat was tasty and portion sizes huge.

The pub had football on when we ate, so it was noisy, but with a group of friends, this didn't bother us. Good to see a pub doing what pubs should... it beats horrible chain pubs hands down.

“Lovely food at very reasonable prices.”
Reviewed April 8, 2012

We stopped here for a meal during a weekend stay at the nearby Marriot Tudor Park. I must admit that when we went inside I was a bit apprehensive as we were looking for a quite country pub and this isn't. However there were two family parties eating and the staff were very friendly. I had a delicious lasagne with salad and home made garlic bread, and my husband had ham egg and chips. Both meals were plentiful and good quality. We also had two drinks and the whole lot came to around £21. Many of the other people eating, had chosen the carvery and their meals also looked vary tasty.
