“Some good points - some bad. Not really up to par”
Reviewed August 30, 2011

I stayed in this hotel for business. The check in staff are very nice and polite. The other staff are reasonably polite.

As noted in other reviews - don't count on the main restaurant having a seat for you. The lounge has a limited menu. There is also a "sports lounge".
Clubhouse: non descriptive, unlike other Marriott hotels. One time came with salad/chips (crisps) crammed into a long and narrow plate.
Second time, came in a normal plate, stone cold (toasted) and with chips (crisps) only. No salad. Staff unapolagetic about cold toasted sandwich.

Marriott burger: bland (and it is not because it is the UK - Marriott Windsor has an excellant one). Not even worth eating the Marriott burger.

Breakfast: Staff at door spends so much time seating people and ordering coffee (that sometimes never comes) that you wait in line and lose time for no reason. Meanwhile, other staff could order your coffee for you since there are a gazillion of them standing around like zombies.

The breakfast food is fine - normal fare. They do have an egg/omlette station. However, it was unstaffed every time I was there and no one even asks you if you'd like an omlette or differently done egg. It seems to be set up..but a complete waste of time.

Rooms: small, comfortable, air condtioning not up to par.
Fellow guests: some of them ignorant. For example, smoking right outside their balcony so it comes into your room. Smoking out in front of the hotel, despite signs directing them to the smoking area. The staff - front desk and lounge - completely oblivious or non caring that the whole main common area of the hotel is being inundated with tobacco smoke. I mean...you put no smoking signs out in front of the door, and then DO NOTHING when various groups of people smoke there? NOTICE the smoke, do something about it.

I packed up my bags and stayed the rest of my time in the area at a different hotel. I may return just for the room night credits - but with tobacco smoke and poor quality food service, it really doesn't make me that happy. I'll eat at the roadside "services" and stay in a "non premium" room.

Room Tip: beware that the "upgraded" rooms have patio doors in them, where smokers will come out and...

We stayed for one night in late August, and thought the summer promotional rate of £89 for bed & breakfast in a deluxe room, was very good value. Imogen on the front desk was was efficient, friendly and helpful and it was a real plus that our room was ready at 1.10pm - we had requested an early check-in since we needed to change before going on to a meeting. We ate dinner in the restaurant, and the service was good. As it was at breakfast the following morning. The food was acceptable, but no more.

As far as we were aware the hotel wasn't full, and all the public areas were fairly quiet durng our stay. Our room was pleasant, the beds were comfortable and we had a good night's sleep. A couple of things I was less happy about were (1) the air conditioning unit was, as has been said by other reviewers, both very noisy and ineffectual. And (2) the shower curtain in the bathroom smelled and was in urgent need of being laundered or replaced. Admittedly my husband was less aware of it, I know my sense of smell is pretty sensitive, but the smell hit me the moment we went into the room and I found it very unpleasant.

We spent 3 nights at the hotel in end July 2011. The hotel has all the amenities you can expect from a Marriott hotel.
The experience was positive and the staff were very helpful. When we arrived we were given a room that was facing the car park as the hotel was full for a wedding. We were worried about the noise but the room was quiet and comfortable. We were upgraded to a better room the next day.
The rooms were very comfortable and featured a nespresso coffee machine which is quite unusual.
Breakfast was excellent, we didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening though.
When we went to settle our account we noticed that one breakfast had been omitted and we mentioned it to the cashier, who told us it was their mistake and they wouldn't charge us. Much appreciated!!
The golf course is nice if not exceptional, staff at the pro shop are very helpful too.
All in all a good experience.

Having stayed in various Marriott hotels worldwide and having stayed in several other hotels in the Maidstone area with comparable rates we chose the Marriott Tudor Park hotel by it's internet presentation. We expected a nice and quiet country hotel and we were actually thinking that our navigation system led us to the wrong place.

The quality of the whole place would have been ok for half the price paid but at over 150 GBP a room you have to criticise the size of the rooms and the fact that they should have had a major renovation a decade ago.

We tried to eat at the restaurant but for guests with an advance room reservation they didn't have table. The food at the bar was OK. The staff at the bar was clueless to put it politely.

The worst experience though was breakfast. The food was average and I wouldn't criticize the hotel for that alone, but the restaurant was overcrowded and understaffed and the noise level was fit for a riot but not for a country club breakfast.

We tried to reach the hotel management with a detailed critic upon checkout, but we had the feeling that the comments were unwanted and soon to be forgotten by the dutch receptionist.

We were leaving on the EuroTunnel early the next morning so decided to stay overnight nearby and stumbled across this hotel in my search - and what a find
Staff were fabulous, restaurant was surprisingly good and sitting out on the terrace having a drink after was a perfect start to our holiday.
Had I known and had a little more time I would have visited the fitness complex the pool looked amazing and the gym looked very well equipped.
Definitely would stay here again and it would make a lovely base from which to explore the area.
Rooms were comfortable and modernly kitted out - including - thankfully A/C

The hotel gave us great access to the Southeast (Canterbury, Dover, Leeds Castle, Chartwell, and others), but it is not a luxury place or a destination unto itself. The room was small, but clean. Bed was great. Air Conditioning not great, but window did open to outside. Pool large and facilities nice. We chose to have dinner at the hotel our first night. They had some good choices, but staffing was not very good. No drink order, main course was forgotten -- they did make it up to us by giving us a free glass of wine. No executive lounge here, but you do get free breakfast with status. The ladies on duty in the morning were very nice and helpful.

This hotel was a life saver after a horrendous car journey across Europe. We were driving to the UK from Germany with a 3 month old baby (crazy I know) and after arriving in the UK 3 hours ahead of schedule we hit MAJOR traffic. The motorway had been completely closed due to road works and after moving only a few miles in a few hours we had to look at other options.

We spotted the hotel on the sat nav, called them and managed to get one of the last remaining rooms for the night (I think other motorists had the same idea). I believe we ended up with a superior room as the standard ones were all full but by this time we had been in the car for 12 hours and just didnt care.

We managed to pull off the motorway and arrived at the hotel shortly afterwards, we were greeted by helpful staff who got us to our room quickly. Although a superior room it wasnt particularly big but it had a bed and a shower and that is all we cared about. They sorted a crib for our baby very quickly and breakfast in the morning was very good.

It was a shame we couldnt make our original destination, however an unfortunate journey ended up with a lovely hotel stay. I am so glad we found this hotel when we did!
