Very good food but not great. Salad bar very good. Kind of noisy. Not many dining options in town- this is probably the best option.

“Love this place”
Reviewed September 9, 2012

Have been here several times over the years, and we've never been disappointed. Good food, good drink, nice place to sit and relax, enjoy. Salad bar is one of the best ever - fresh, nice choices. Wonderful desserts! For a more casual atmosphere, ask to sit in the bar. My only suggestion would be it's time to update the menu - it's been the same for years...

“Really worth a stop”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

The Tributary sits in the center of Winsted at the entrance to the athletic recreation center. The restaurant is small and is somewhat dark inside. However, the food was truly good. So good, that we often plan trips to visit relatives in southern Connecticut that include a stop at this restaurant. The seafood is excellent and the desserts are substantive and tasty. The real treat is the mixed green salad with chicken. This is one of the best salads that we have ever eaten. And the size of the salad is amazing. The salad bar is also very good. The owners and staff are courteous and professional. So, if you plan to drive through western Connecticut and are in Winsted, stop here.

“Definitely worth a stop”
Reviewed August 11, 2012

Four of us went not sure what to expect, based on mixed reviews. But, we were pleasantly surprised. The salad bar was fresh and had tons of options. The meals were not too pricey compared to many other nice restaurants in nearby towns ($18-22 range, which included the salad bar) and the size and taste of the meals definitely made the price worth it. The pork chop meal, veal dish, and seafood bouillabaisse came in huge portions and were very tasty. The shrimp/scallop farfalle was also well liked. Although the outside curb appeal and inside decor are outdated, it's easy to look past that when you walk away with a satisfied belly! Definitely worth going again.

“Far Too Expensive”
Reviewed August 8, 2012

Winsted is a little country town close to the Mass border frequented by middle class vacationers camping out at the local forest to save a few bucks so you can imagine my surprise when I found nothing on the menu here for less than $20. Gentrification by refugees of Mass taxes seems to be causing a price explosion at the local eateries.I ordered the Petit Prime Rib which was $21.95! Boston prices in the boonies!! I suspect the Prime rib to have been previously frozen because it was a little on the dry side.Folks raving about the mash potatoes either don't get out much or are so used to instant mash that they don't know what real potatoes should taste like.Mine were quite lumpy and appeared to have been made with the water they were boiled in rather than drained and have milk added. The salad bar was a bright spot with homemade potato and macaroni salad although the bread bar was not fresh. The place seems to have been around since the year of the flood and they actually have pictures of the flood on the wall to prove it. I find this an attraction however. It was Friday night and it was dinner time and the place was less than half full while Mc Donalds next store was doing a landmark business. What a shame. A ten percent reduction in price coupled with some minor improvements in food quality and this place should have been full. The staff were polite and attentive but never asked me "How is everything?"
