My family purchased a VIP tour so that my father, a former Air Force pilot, could have a more customized experience and get up close to the planes he was most interested in. The price was $200 for the four of us, a steep jump over the usual $12 admission fee. However, he had a huge smile on his face the whole time we were there... totally worth it! We ended up having two docents escort us (one was training but he was also very knowledgeable) and they were wonderful. They shared lots of information and happily fielded all the questions we asked. We never felt rushed and our experience felt very personal. A few observations if you are thinking about visiting the museum: the museum's collection skews older, most of their aircraft are from early aviation and World Wars I and II. There was a decent display of items from the Korean conflict as well. If you are interested in any of these eras, you will be very pleased -- however, if you are looking for recent or prototype aircraft (such as F-14s or Stealths), this probably isn't the place for you. Gearheads will be interested in the large amount of engines on display, an underrated aspect of the museum. Also note that the VIP tour isn't intended to be a guided tour of everything in the museum, we went dashing by quite a few displays on our way to the planes where we would spend the most time. If you want to explore all that the museum has to offer (and are thinking about doing a VIP tour), go early for the tour and then stay as long as you want afterwards. We were with the docents about an hour and a half; they would have stayed with us longer if we had wanted. There seemed to be a great selection of activities for kids, with different types of offerings depending on age. The museum is more expansive than it appears when you first enter it, but is easy to maneuver with a wheelchair or stroller. The outdoor area is seasonal. If you or a member of your family is a historical aviation buff, a visit to NEAM, and a personalized VIP tour, is completely worthwhile!
