Owner description: Reimagining itself in recent years, Westport Country Playhouse is rapidly emerging as a nationally recognized professional theater. Under the artistic direction of Mark Lamos and management direction of Michael Ross, the Playhouse creates five live theater experiences, produced at the highest level, from April through November. Its vital mix of works---dramatic, comedic, occasionally exploratory and unusual---expands the audience’s sense of what theater can be. The depth and scope of its productions display the foremost theatrical literature from the past---recent as well as distant---in addition to musicals and premieres of new plays. During the summer, the Playhouse is home to the Woodward Internship Program, renowned for the training of aspiring theater professionals. Winter at the Playhouse, from November through March, offers events outside of the main season---Family Festivities presentations, Script in Hand play readings and a Holiday Festival. In addition, businesses and organizations are encouraged to rent the handsome facility for their meetings, receptions and fundraisers

Warm, cozy venue. A wonderful place to spend an evening watching a play! I have been going here for many years. It is unique and 'old-world'.

Love to sit on the mezzanine level in the single row seats!

Enjoy it! Worth trying!

So great to hear from patrons who have been coming to the Playhouse for so long! I, too, have my favorite place to sit in the theater. Although we have almost 600 seats, the theater is incredibly intimate. Say hello the next time you're with us!

This playhouse has endured with multiple changes in leadership. It has loyal supporters and that'sa good thing. While this is not a stop on the Broadway production route, the theater thrives on a calendar of classics and award winning plays. Things you missed or want to see again ae here as well as occasional originals. Intimate theater, with the feel of a church relocated inside a barn. Parking is easy and a number of good restaurants are nearby.

Thanks for joining us! We like to provide a diverse array of offering throughout each season, hand-selected by Artistic Director Mark Lamos specifically for the Fairfield County community. Our goal is to create Theater Worth Talking About...if we create dialogue off-stage as well, we're doing something right. See you soon.

Moliere's brilliant play where the cunning beggar, Tartuffe has enchanted Orgon into giving him a home and all he desires because of his apparent holiness and goodness. Other members of Orgon's family are far from convinced. Still very relevant today, reminds one of many a politician and their gullible followers.

So glad you were able to join us for our production of Moliere's TARTUFFE. It was a fun production and really had people talking in our lobbies. Amazing how a centuries-old play can be just as relevant today. Until next time...

Great venue, plays average to very good. Always enjoyable to visit, and lots of decent restaurants nearby

Thanks for your kind words! We work very hard to produce a season of plays that are not only created for this very community, but productions that are of the highest caliber. It's our goal to create "theater worth talking about." Stop by again soon.

Took my grand kids weekly to see the play and visit with the Rooster. It was fun until plays became too expensive for the playhouse to put on and weekly shows were discontinued. The remodel seemed to be nice. Some of the plays are ok. I lived in Westport so it was convenient to get to. Won't be going back with the current venue on stage. Rather take the hour train ride into NYC to see a play.

Thanks so much for your feedback. It's true our method of producing has changed over the years. Currently, we offer a 5-Play season, typically from May-November. We're about to embark upon our season-closing production of Lorraine Hansberry's A RAISIN IN THE SUN, directed by Phylicia Rashad, in just a few weeks.

Although we don't produce family performances every week as we did some years ago, we do have a very active Family Festivities series which kicks off in November with THE BERENSTAIN BEARS (November 11). And even better, all tickets to Family Festivities performances are only $18! I hope you'll be able to join us again soon.
