Came for a birthday Brunch and Massage. Brunch was good, but service was TERRIBLE!!!! Servers never bothered eye contact or to come and refill coffee or juice. Anyways, off to the SPA. or shall i say a room w/no music/no relaxation/nothing for money spent? THe women at the desk-very delightful, but the relaxation room had no music, nothing to read, little variety of tea, coffee and lousy water. The music player was broken. The shoes they give you were all slimy. It felt like a mini waiting room. The chairs were not comfortable at all and not enough chairs for anyone who came back after the treatment. My masseuse was too flimsy. kept dropping his oil bottle--cannot relax to that. We didn't bother going into the relaxation room after b/c it wasn't worth it bc it was so small and there was no point. NEVER GO THERE AGAIN FOR TREATMENTS.! What a birthday, terrible service, lousy massage

Just came back from another stay at the Water's Edge. As said in previous reviews the resort is under construction. I had a chance to speak with the manager about the changes. The new building is NOT being built on the front lawn. It is going in front of the outdoor pool where a previous building stood (that has since been torn down). The front lawn is dug up to redo the grass area and for access to the site with heavy machinery. It will return to normal with the terrific views!! The main hotel is receiving all new carpet in rooms and in hallways, removal of wallpaper and new paint and flat screen T.V.'s. Our time is always enjoyable at the resort and the staff is very helpful. They offer some great deals in the winter.

Please do not waste your hard earned money on this has been resort! What a dissappointment ! From our rotten veal chop yes I said rotten veal chop at dinner to our 1970's room the only person that should be visiting this place should be the Health Inspector! They boast about their spa but let me tell you the treatments are nothing to write home about and their novice therapists are in need of a serious overhaul. The rotten veal chop was the icing on the cake! It was rancid! This is an award winning resturant? What award exactly did they win? A slab of concrete and two cinder blocks describes our bed. Waters edge will push you over the edge in dissappointment.

My wife and I have been to this resort before. We had a birthday party event in 1988 and had a wonderful anniversary stay in one of the "condo" style units a couple of years ago(see prior review). This is a resort of extremely long and fine heritage previously owned by and known as "Bill Hahn's" until the 80's. My aunt actually stayed here frequently from the 40's to the 60's. This time our son in law gave us a very generous gift card which we applied to a one night stay (Saturday to Sunday) and booked the "Royal Suite." This suite is on the third floor of the main building right under the roof. The room is extremely large and the slanted ceilings add to the ambiance rather than detract from same. The decor is really from the 70's to 80's with some updates to the very large bathroom with jacuzzi. The room is separated into two large areas. The sleeping area has a king size bed and has marble like columns at the entry point. There is a wonderful two sided remote controlled gas fire place separating the sleeping area from the sitting area. Recessed lighting adds to the ambiance. There is a small balcony with two chairs overlooking the water by way of a fabulous view. The carpeting was quite old but fairly clean. There is white furniture throughout the room which shows some wear but was otherwise fine. There is an old style television in the sitting area and a very small flat screen in the sleeping area. Reception was poor on many channels. These need to be updated. Pay per view was not functioning but we did not care much about this. There is a separate heating and cooling system in the room each having separate controls. The heat worked very nicely which we actually had to turn down because of the fireplace. The cooling system looks like its virtually brand new which we obviously did not turn on in December. The king size bed was quite comfortable. We enjoyed the accomodations very much and did take advantage of the jacuzzi though the jacuzzi jets don't do all that much to the water. There is a stall shower in the massive bathroom. The room was extremely quiet despite the fact that there were two weddings in progress on the main level. There is a small refridgerator below a wetbar but there is no stock of items such as drinks or snacks. There is a large walk in closet. There was the standard coffee maker with supplies. We would like to experience this room again, perhaps in summer to be able to use the balcony. This room, I'm sure is among the most expensive in the resort., especially in summer. Our pre tax rate in the winter off season for this room was $305. At check in, when I inquired as to any further discount through AAA, the reply with some annoyance by the desk clerk was a curt "no." The only negative I can really think of worth commenting on is the fact that the carpeting in the halls of the sleeping rooms, at least on the third floor was completing worn down and quite stained. This is not something one would expect in a resort of this reputation and pricing. Management should direct its attention to this. Aside from our complete enjoyment of the sleeping accomodations, we had a very nice dinner in the restaurant and of course, the famous, massive and almost overwhelming Sunday brunch. It is really the best brunch in Connecticut as far as we have experienced. Prices in the restaurant are in the range of what you would expect for fine dining on the Connecticut shoreline. At brunch, from our window side table, we could see construction going on right in front of the water. Water's Edge is building Villa's presumably for hotel guests and time share owners(there are existing time share units on the property already). There is information in the main lobby on this and a dedicated video being shown continuously regarding the "Villas at Water's Edge." Apparently, a multi-story building is being constructed that will no doubt block the water view from many vantage points. My wife and I really questioned the decision making here as it looks like this building will change foreover if not destroy the large open view to Long Island Sound. Of course, the guests on the water side of the Villa's will have a fantastic view but this will be a whole new "look" for this resort. Those that have booked weddings or who may be considering same should definitely consider the effects of the construction in progress as to noise, dirt and view, especially if outside events are planned.

My husband and I just completed a weeks stay at Water's Edge. In comparison to other resorts that we have stayed at, this was almost the worst (the worst being BlueBay Esmeralda in Playa del Carmen).

The room was somewhat clean and large for a 1 bedroom, but the decor and furnishings were in great need of refurbishing. The view of the ocean was decent . At check in the staff were NOT particularly friendly. There was not internet connection, hardline or wi-fi, which was a big problem. Westbrook is a quaint town on the Connecticut coast like. It is about 20 miles away from New Haven, 50 miles south of Hartford and 90 miles east of NYC. There is nothing to do in Westbrook this time of year, so be prepared to drive if you are looking for activities.

There are several locations mentioned in the Food Paradise shows on the Travel Channel within driving distance.

Highlights
1. wine trail wineries (the atmosphere of these wineries are very different than the wineries in Napa and Sonoma)
2. outlet shopping - Premium in Clinton and Tanger in Westbrook
3. Lobster Roll from Lenny and Joe's Fish Tale
4. Frank Pepe's Pizzeria Napolentana
5. Creative Cooking - local restaurant offering the regional fare of NOLA

I think we would return to the area but not to this resort. It just was not an awing experience that we are accustom to.

This was our second time staying at this resort. We stayed in the timeshare units both times. The location is amazing as the resort is right on the water. The restaurant is very nice and the Sunday brunch was quite extensive. However, the unit we stayed in this time was in dire need of refurbishing. The furniture in the living room was torn and dirty. There was mold in the grout along the bathtub which is totally unacceptable for a resort of this caliber. I would think twice about staying at this resort again.
