We last went to Cafe Routier several years ago and remember loving it. So we were anticipating it, perhaps too highly. The service was excellent (if it were just service, I'd give it five stars), but the food was incosistent. (Food rating alone would be three stars.) The clam chowder was very rich; sort of a Rhode Island with a dollop of creme fraiche in it and a lot of bacon flavor. But the goat cheese/potato tort was overly dominated by potato and a little doughy because of it. The lobster bucatini was flavorful, but the lobster was overcooked from sitting in the hot sauce and was stringy and itself had little of the flavor or juicy quality you want from lobster. The crabcakes were just eh. But the Halibut entree was delicious. And the wine list is priced reasonably.

An extraordinary restaurant in all respects--the superior quality and selection of the healthiest and freshest farm to table foods, exquisitely and delicately prepared dishes and presentation, the ambiance, and their sensitivity, attention and care to meet special dietary needs including celiac are all deeply valued and appreciated. Cafe Routier is a rare find and jewel not to be missed! Can't wait to go back!

We were lucky to get a table at the Cafe Routier for our very first visit on a Friday evening. Friends recommended that we try to get a seat in the bar area, but it was packed so we sat in the dining room. The menu looked great, but we had also heard that the fish tacos were awesome, so I asked our waiter about that and he graciously gave us the pub menu and allowed us to choose entrees from both menus. So we did have the fish tacos, which were good, and I had mussels for a main course, and my husband had the meatloaf. We really enjoyed the food here, and will definitely come back to try different entrees. Our waiter was great - very friendly guy - and we liked the atmosphere.

The food here is amazing!!!! So are the drinks and staff! Wow. If you haven't gone here, you definitely should! The steak is great, the drinks are to die for and the restaurant is intimate and just the perfect place for couples or families! I've been here for dinner but also a rehearsal dinner and the service was out of this world. Bookmark this place for sure!

Upscale perfect food served with pride. Three section menu (seasonal, regional and the original) is diverse French-Continental-New England and varied. The grilled trout is priceless. The steak and pomme frites delightful. I am getting hungry writing. Dining room takes reservations (busy on weekends and they'll call to confirm your table; bar and lounge has more buzz. Tim makes a delightful drink and they have some lovely beers on tap.
