We last went to Cafe Routier several years ago and remember loving it. So we were anticipating it, perhaps too highly. The service was excellent (if it were just service, I'd give it five stars), but the food was incosistent. (Food rating alone would be three stars.) The clam chowder was very rich; sort of a Rhode Island with a dollop of creme fraiche in it and a lot of bacon flavor. But the goat cheese/potato tort was overly dominated by potato and a little doughy because of it. The lobster bucatini was flavorful, but the lobster was overcooked from sitting in the hot sauce and was stringy and itself had little of the flavor or juicy quality you want from lobster. The crabcakes were just eh. But the Halibut entree was delicious. And the wine list is priced reasonably.
