“Saved the best 'til last”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2009

Having stayed in three other hotels in Tanzania during our trip and safari, this one came at the end. If only we could have spent another night here to unwind after all of the travel, but it was over all too quickly. Lovely location, beautiful gardens, views of Killi (when cloud cover permitted) lovely spacious rooms. Nice and relaxing (shame that it was always Phil Collins playing as the background music!) meals were good, atmosphere good (even though we had multiple power cuts during the evening)
The staff couldn't have done more for us when one of our party became ill and thanks go to them. All in all, a great way and place to round off our trip.

The Arumeru River Lodge is located outside of Arusha on very pleasant landscaped grounds. The beautiful main building houses the reception, restaurant and lounge area, while the accommodation is in the form of several 2-suite bungalows scattered across the grounds. The garden setting is beautiful and both the grounds and buildings are well-maintained. There is also a (cold) pool with loungers around for some relaxing.

Dikdiks and guinea fowl are commonly seen wandering the grounds.

The rooms are very comfortable, and the food served in the dining room is of excellent quality and quantity. The staff is friendly and attentive.

The only drawbacks are the bungalows are very close to the paths connecting them, resulting in a fair bit of noise as people arrive or depart dragging their rolling bags, speaking loudly or slamming doors. Also there are no fridges or TVs in the rooms (but we didn't miss them).

The location is outside of Arusha, so it's not really possible to spend time in the town unless you have your own private transport. It's mainly used as a base for those arriving from the airport then departing the next day on safari, and for that it's excellent as it's peaceful and removed from the chaos of the town.

We stayed here 3 times (on arrival in Arusha, after a two day trip to Macambe and after 2 weeks on safari) and each time were pleased with the visit. Only on the last stay did we have any problems, waking up to find a trail of ants across the room, over the mosquito net and into the bathroom. They spray nightly, but must have neglected to do so this one time! Once informed of the problem the staff quickly took care of it. An unfortunate event given we really did have a good experience for most of our visits.

I would not hesitate to stay here again.
