We stayed for our first night on arrival to Tanzania before starting our safari. It was a great place to arrive at after a long journey and we were welcomed warmly by the owners. After arriving late we were offered a lovely meal and had a wonderful first night sleep surrounded by the soothing sounds of birds and monkeys. Early morning before we set off we had a lovely breakfast and walked the beautiful grounds. Bright colourful flowers, turkeys gobbling and our first animal spot, the very cute Dik Dik!

Everything that I wanted to say has been said by other people. Our trip was already very expensive and we had asked our travel agent where we could cut on the cost, and she suggested this hotel instead of another one more expensive in Arusha. We didn't know what to expect. Since we were arriving late at night and leaving early in the morning, it was great. The staff was friendly. The grounds were very nice, with lots of flowers. And they accomodated us with food even though it was very late.
I would recommend this place and I would stay there again!

my wife, my in-laws and I departed on a two week long safari (off road, camping gear, a map and a swahili dictionary). However, we underestimated the travel times on the road and did not expect to find ourselves at night on the road with no where to sleep. Fortunately we found the Arumeru River Lodge in one occasion. The hosts (owners), were very kind to us and offered a great experience which allowed us to relax from the stress of off-road adventures in the unknown. The place itself is fabulous, but my favourite part was the lunch offered at their restaurant in their BEAUTIFUL garden. The price is on the high end, but you get every penny worth of value. Thank you for the hospitality.

I stayed at the Arumeru River Lodge for a total of six nights at the beginning and end of my visit to Tanzania in February 2011. I had no complaints and felt very at home at Arumeru, which I found peaceful, welcoming and unprentious. My room was spacious, clean and comfortable; the extensive gardens are lovely; the pool is a good size; the staff were friendly and helpful; the food was good (and plentiful!); and the hotel seemed very secure. I was in Tanzania for a conference at another hotel in the area and one evening Arumeru's owner was kind enough to drive another guest and myself to a conference dinner himself when our shuttle bus didn't appear. Was sad to leave!

As per the other reviews, this is a wonderful place to stay. I was here with my brother and his wife and we stayed here on 3 separate occasions, 3 days before climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, 2 days between the climb and going on safari and another 2 days before returning home.

The accommodations were 10 duplexes spread out over a beautifully landscaped grounds. The rooms were spacious and clean and you couldn't hear the people in the connecting room.

The owners were extremely friendly and helpful as was the staff. One day we did a "forest walk" with Gideon which was a great way to spend an afternoon. Also, it got us out and walking around the neighbourhood.

Small negative which was totally out of control of the owners, was the fact that the power was off everyday for several hours. However, this happened all 6 places we stayed while on safari. Difficult to get internet connection unless you bring your laptop.

As part of our safari package, we stayed here two nights after arriving at Kilimanjaro Airport. Although about a 45 minute drive from the airport, this respite is well away from the main road behind a small coffee plantation. The grounds are exceptionally landscaped with greenery, with several local animals calling this property home -- dik diks and guinea fowl. Even though arriving quite late, we were met by the current owners with fresh juice. We stayed in Room #6, a short walk from the main building. There are several small buildings with rooms, each accessed from a short walkway. Our room had a closet, bath, sitting area, large bed with mosquito netting, desk, and bath. Two small bottles of water were provided. Our only complaint was that our ceiling fan made a tremendous amount of noise so we kept it off, consequently getting quite warm while sleeping. Normally the lodge has a buffet for breakfast, but since there were only 3 guests, including ourselves, we ordered what we wanted. Offered were eggs, toast, pastries, juice, coffee/tea, fresh fruit, sausage and bacon. In our case, only breakfast was included, Upon return on our second day, we found out we fould be responsible for covering the dinner cost. We found this interesting since there were no other options. Dinner was price fixe, with a choice of entree. It cost $37 for both my husband and me. The lodge has a small gift shop. Recommend buying some local coffee here to bring home. The bags are wrapped in colorful local cloth, and is very fresh, having been processed within a few weeks of purchase. The lodge also has a small bar. Recommend trying all the local beer -- Safari, Tusker, Kilimanjaro and Serengeti to determine your favorite. Be sure to make time to visit the pool. It is solar heated, and quite nice.
