recommended; nice location btw arusha and moshi; very good food and service; management/staff very kind and flexible - baby sit can be arranged to allow you having a romantic dinner; rooms are fine for couple, but slightly small for a family with kids. unique garden, to explore - special sight the couple of owls; walk on river side too.

Room Tip: suggest the "old" rooms, not the new ones because the terrace outside isnt so great as in the old rooms

I stayed at Rivertrees for a night although I wish I stayed longer, it was lovely. The room decor is tasteful and the beds are super nice, the showers have great water pressure. The service is not only impeccable but also very personal. The grounds are beautiful, monkeys run all over and the landscaping is gorgeous. Both the dinner and the breakfast was tasty.
Try to avoid the room next to the common area right behind the store, if anyone is talking there, you can hear every word. It was pretty noisy and certainly not private.
And while it's relatively close to Kilimanjaro airport, it's a bit of a track from Arusha.
Overall it's a fantastic lodge and I'd say it's an ideal place to finish a Safari before flying out.

We decided to stay at this lodge, about a half hour from Arusha, after our very long journey from Canada. It was the perfect place to rest up before starting our safari. We came on the recommendation of friends, and we could see why. We had an enormous cottage, close to a small river. We shared our room with our adult son and it was beautifully furnished with a king-size and a twin bed, complete with mosquito netting. There was a very large bathroom with a walk-in shower, separate bathtub and double sinks. There was even an outside shower which was private and reached through the bathroom. The room had two bouquets of fresh yellow roses, and there was even a fireplace. There was also a small swimming pool which was cold but refreshing.

Dining could be inside or out in the garden and the meals were delicious. The grounds are very spacious and beautifully landscaped.

Would highly recommend this place, especially if you want a good rest and peace and quiet.

Three friends and I stayed in the River House and it was amazing. The beds had mosquito nets and were extremely comfortable. There was also free wine, fruit and a cake for us in the kitchen area. The best part though was the outdoor deck which overlooked the river - the perfect place to kick back with a drink after a day of touring.

There are no doors to the bathroom in each of the rooms, only 3/4 walls so you can't see the other person but you can hear them. This wasn't really an issue, the other person could wait in the lounge area for a little bit or put their iPod on. No biggie. If you can't bear to hear your traveling companion pee then you probably shouldn't be traveling in Africa together.

Room Tip: If you have 4+ people the River House is the way to go.

Our first stop on our honeymoon for 2 nights. The bedrooms are beautiful and ours was strewn with rose petals and vases of flowers. Gorgeous comfy huge wooden beds with mozzie nets (take your Deet for the evenings), our cottage (Fiscal Shrike) was right on the gurgling river which was great. The pool is lovely and the pizzas from the wood fired oven were delicious as was the rest of the food. If we were staying longer I'd like a little more choice on the menu as a non-meat eater though. We had a rest day and chose to do a canoe trip on Lake Duluti with local guide Chris which was a fun way to see the bird life, get some exercise and gently kick off the holiday with someone who knew loads about the wildlie in the area. It's a very peaceful place to gather yourself ready for a safari experience, and we enjoyed seeing blue monkeys in the evenings as we sat by the fire for dinner!
