My wife and I got married at The Dunloe in summer, 2011 and it was a fantastic experience. All aspects of the reception were above expectations, from the food, attentive staff and friendly atmosphere. Indeed, two years later, friends and relatives still comment on the quality of the food and ambiance.
The only downside to having our wedding reception at The Dunloe was it ruined our honeymoon! We stayed at a fantastic five star boutique hotel in Portugal, but it paled in comparison to the Dunloe for decor, staff friendliness and food.
We had wanted to return to The Dunloe since then, but with commitments and time constraints we were unable to until a couple of weeks ago. We were very interested to see if our memories were rose-tinted, having been the centre of attention, so to speak, during our wedding. Indeed, there was a wedding there the afternoon we arrived, so we were able to judge the hotel from the perspective of "ordinary" guests.
What we discovered, not to any great surprise, is that there are no "ordinary" guests at The Dunloe. We were treated wonderfully by all the staff, who have a very gentle way about them. Nothing is too big or - most importantly - too small.
Other hotels we have stayed in are friendly, courteous and efficient, but only in The Dunloe have we felt that the staff are genuinely warm and welcoming. There is a comfortable, easy atmosphere that pervades the place.
We believe this comes from the top-down, as anyone who has had the pleasure of dealing with the general manager, Mr. Clifford, can attest. When we phoned to make the booking the day before we were to arrive, we were told he was off that weekend. On arrival, we discovered he had upgraded our room to a suite (and what outstanding accommodation it is!); provided a bowl of fruit, handmade chocolates and a hand written welcome note. Such care from a manager on his weekend off is, perhaps, unique.
This, we feel, is what makes the Dunloe stand out from the crowd. Yes, the hotel decor, rooms, views and food are outstanding, but it is the personal touch and genuinely warm staff that make The Dunloe a gem.
We will be returning as soon as funds and time allows.
