This review would be five stars if the AMBIANCE matched the AMAZING FOOD!!
This chef owned and operated restaurant should be in in NYC-the food is that good.
It is located in Wallingford on a busy main road that should be redone for ambiance sake-try the whole snapper fish on the menu-also the chicken wrapped in a dish bacon-unlike ANYTHING you have had-
Efraim is the best-he will make whatever id not on the menu if you need a specific-EVERYTHING in fresh.

Although we only went for appetizers, I must say that they were mostly great. We had the sampler platter (Banderitas), the Grilled calamari and Portuguese chorizo, (Calamari Y Chorizo), the roasted pulled pork (Picaditas de Cerdo).

The chicken in the sampler was tiny and mostly bone. but the shrimp and pork were awesome. My wife and I like calamari, but thought they were a bit overdone. The vegi's along side were great.

The roasted pork dish was simply delicious. Wish we could have had more, but them I realized that I did already have something similar in the sampler. A Don Julio Silver margarita was a nice compliment to the meal. My only regret was not having enough time to try the wonderful sounding meals on the menu. Will do soon, I guarantee that.
Thanks,
JJB

My wife and I went here on a weeknight for some good carribbean cuisine. The cebiche de camaran was excellent although the plantain chips on the side were tasteless. The banderita appetizer was lousy and left uneaten. For main course, I had the pescado, which sounded great with the plantain-crusted coating on the fish. It arrived soggy and just as tasteless as the plantains with the cebiche. I ended up scraping it off and ate just the fish, which was at least fresh. The white rice and beans were both old and not worth eating. My wife got the chuletas and the pork chops were dried out and overdone.

A somewhat disappointing meal, but we will probably return to try some other stuff on the menu.

We had a large party (9 people) and were prepared to wait for our food. the menu even notes that the food is prepared in such a way that it might take a bit longer than usual. I understand that the goal is to get all of the 9 people served at the same time, but we did have to wait about 90 minutes or so for our entrees. That's still not too bad, but it would have been nice (and benefitted the restaurant as well) to have the chance to order more drinks during the wait. The water galsses were refilled continuously, however.

I understand from friends who have gone in smaller parties that the long wait is not typical, and since the food was so good I'm not going to knock the rating. I will be going back and look forward to another fine meal!
