Now this is paradise!
We arrived at Mamboz on my 40th birthday. The palm fronds drew lazy circles in the sand. Wooden bed frames adorned with cusions and pillows hung from the trees and swayed in the tropical breeze. My 6 year old son chose a hammock and set up shop. An hour later he chose another hammock and such were the choices and he was content to roam free range for the 4 days we were there. The hotel puppy was his companion and the monkeys that stared at us in the shower his spies. This was silence. The beat of the waves (too large while we were there to swim in. an irregularity as we understand) took the place of the ticking of clocks and so the days became lazier and longer.
The food, served communally under a thatched hut or privately just off the beach was spectacular. The best rice & curry we had while in Sri Lanka and Mathew and his teams were accommodating, hospitable, jovial and helpful while respectful of our privacy. Mathew gives an amazing Thai massage (and I have spent a lot of time being Thai massaged). It’s a two-hour blissful experience off the beach after which I felt totally aligned and clear (I had to beg him for another one the next day. He only does one per day so request in advance!)
We spent our time at Mamboz walking the perfectly secluded beach at sun set, eating exquisite fruits, napping on swinging beds, reading and helping the local fishermen pull in their daily catch (which is rewarded with some of their floundering bounty). Mamboz is exquisite, simple, timeless and a perfect way to rewire your nerves. You’ll wish you’d stayed longer. I know we did.
