Materdi was horrifically stuck up, sneered when we didn't have reservations. Food was not Italian, and the atmosphere is better at a highway diner.

We had an enjoyable meal at the Venetian, but we are used to eating in Fairfield County and NYC Italian restaurants and compared to many of those the food here was average, The atmosphere was lovely though--very quaint and small town. Everyone seemed to know each other and were stopping to greet each other. The service was very good. In general, the crowd seemed older. The food was fine for the area.

We moved to the Northwest corner of CT last year, and love everything about it except the food. We have been hearing rave reviews about the Venetian so we finally decided to try it. Atmosphere was outdated, but clean. The service was good, and let us take our time. The food however, what a disappointment! Having grown up in Fairfield county, we realize we are very spoiled when it comes to food, so I was trying to not be overly critical. But I have literally eaten better food from a hospital cafeteria! The clams casino was pretty good, the shrimp cocktail was mushy, the made-at-tableside caesar salad was waaay overdressed, my filet of sole was mushy, fishy smelling and obviously frozen, my husbands manicotti tasted like it was covered in ketchup rather than marinara and they should call the meatballs 'stuffing balls', since there was no sign of any meat. Then we got the bill and saw that we could have eaten in Manhattan and spent the same....Very disappointing! Live and learn. We definately won't ever go back. But the people who have lived here their whole lives and don't know any better, love it....to each their own...

My wife and I seek out and enjoy Italian restaurants for fine dining. When I read some of the reviews for the Venetian, I couldn't believe they were reviewing the place we have come to know and love! After 20 years of warm friendship, superb cuisine and a cordial atmosphere (that isn't chasing change for the sake of change), I seriously wonder where these reviewers were reviewing?

Venetian has some qualities behind the scenes that you won't read about on the menu. It's not a chain with the owners far away; they're right there making sure things are top notch. The kitchen is impeccably clean. If you order veal or chicken, don't expect the 1/2" thick "cutlets" so common today. True medallions are pounded thin and prepared the old fashioned way and served with sauces that are worthy of the expression "fine dining."

Add to the above real good Italian bread; pistachio ice cream; the best Espresso anywhere, and if you really want a treat, order the Caesar salad prepared by the owner at your table side. Trouble is, Michael's Caesar salad absolutely kills the desire to have it anywhere else!

Yes, our condolences to the folks who went to some other place. We'll surely be back to the Venetian we know..............often.

Went here prior to a show at the Warner and we thought the food was very good but the service was awful and the portions were small considering the price. If we were to go to another show at the Warner we likely would come back but this isnt a restaurant you would go out of your way to get to.

The decor is very dated and the tables are all uncomfortable close (to the point where you have to be careful you dont wind up in the lap of another patron when you get up).

Our server was very bad; one of the worst I have experienced.
