As with most places mostly staffed by teenagers, the quality and consistency of what you get varies wildly. Recent visits have yielded anything from cream cheese garnished with bagel to a bagel that looked like someone cleaned off the last schmear of cream cheese off a knife on it. Sadly the quality of the coffee and the level of service seems to vary as well. A recent upgrade is the use of Dave's coffee.

However, most come here weekend mornings to meet the neighbours and catch up on local town news and events. There are 2 small tables on each side of the door, a doggy water bowl and secure tie-out on one side to leave your pooch. The interior is decorated with artwork available for purchase by local artists, books and pamphlets on the town.

Despite variations on what you get, this establishment is still an important part of Stonington's local culture.

As there is not another coffee shop in the Boro, I went back a second morning after a horrible latte the day before. I thought, maybe they had an off day, right? The shots are weak and can't even be tasted in the milk. I dumped a little out and asked them just to put a few inches of regular coffee in. I swear it didn't help. What's worse? It's expensive! My latte cost nearly a dollar more than a great one from Starbucks or the like. I ended up tossing it and hitting up Noah's nearby for a cup of the good stuff.

Now granted, I'm from the west coast and have a high standard for coffee... but don't go in with high hopes.

Not only is the Dave's Coffee excellent I ended up stumbling upon one of the surprisingly best bagels (where do they get them?!) I have had since leaving Manhattan, the bagels and lox with cream cheese capers and red onions was delish! Service was actually quite good I ordered and a nice young man zipped our food right over and my boyfriend is not the patient kind when it comes to waiting for food and he happily wolfed down his egg and something sandwich and then ate half of my bagel with lox! Next time I will make him order his own. A new favorite in this lovely area.
