What a miserable evening at Skipper's Dock on a holiday weekend with temperatures in the 80s! We will NEVER return, except perhaps to walk to the dock and enjoy the view. We arrived at approximately 6pm and were told that it was a 20 minute wait for a table. After over an hour we were seated inside where the tables were mostly empty. THey were clearly understaffed. There were several waitresses running around and complaining... not something customers want or need to hear. Not one of them acknowledged our presence. After 15 minutes of being ignored we asked the hostess whether a waitress was going to come to our table. She said that someone was coming to our table any minute and that she was a great waitress. When we suggested that she should have told us that it was going to be an hour+ before getting seated she said, "It's not my job. I don't know when the waitresses are going to be able to wait on you." Huh?!?! What exactly is the job of a hostess?!?! How rude! After another 5 minutes passed, we got up and left Skipper's Dock at 7:30pm. We went to the Dog Watch Cafe down the street - which was extremely busy - and were seated promptly... waited on immediately and served a delicious meal. We will never go back to Skipper's Dock. It is beyond comprehension how that place survives and how they could be so unprepared for a holiday weekend.

I visited this restaurant the last weekend in July 2011. We waited FOREVER for a waiter to even visit our table, the waitress finally arrived, gave us water, disappeared for about 20 minutes, came back and got our drink orders and ran away for another 20 minutes, we finally ordered our food (food came out pretty quick) but our waitress never came back to the table again! I went inside to order another drink at the bar, ridiculous.

After that whole fiasco, we asked for our check, waited 20 minutes for it, I help the credit card and bill in my hand over my head for 15 minutes and she just kept walking past me. Finally my boyfriend got fed up with her attitude and brought the bill up to the front desk and demanded we pay now. We did NOT leave the girl a tip.

Horrible experience for mediocre food.

Skippers Dock is located right on the harbor in Stonington, CT. We went there on a Wednesday evening for the Prime Rib special ($15.95). My wife wanted to eat outdoors on the water, so we got a table outside. However the wind came up and neither of us were really dressed for it. Although we had already ordered, the waitress saw us and took us to a good table indoors. Even though we were happy where they seated us, a manager came over, told us our table wasn't good enough and sent us over to a really pretty table by a window with an ocean view. We were speechless. Who else would have done that for a customer? She didn't know it but we were there for our 30th anniversary.

The Prime Rib was excellent, served with Yorkshire Pudding and asparagus. The meal was excellent.

For waterfront dining, this restaurant is top of the line. The staff was great and went beyond the call of duty. Had we gone there on a calm evening, dining outside would have been fantastic. It's a restaurant with lots of great atmosphere.

There aren't that many restaurants in CT with dining right on the water. If that's what you're looking for...this is your place.

This restaurant is located just a couple of miles east of Mystic Aquarium in the borough of Stonington. Stonington and Mystic are worlds apart. Mystic has tourists; Stonington has quiet and charm.

Reservations are not accepted on weekends, although guests of the Inn at Stonington seem to have a little more opportunity to dine at a specific time. There is valet parking only, but it is also fairly easy to find a spot on the street. The restaurant is located on the water, behind the Inn at Stonington and it seems to be a fun, hopping spot. There is a band on the porch, and seating on the porch, inside at the bar, or in the main dining room.

We enjoyed the lobster bisque and the lobster specialty sandwich, with one drink each for about $60, not including tax and tip. Check the online menu, they have an excellent seafood selection. Desserts also looked good but we opted out for this particular evening. Meals can be more expensive depending on your choice of food and drink, but those on a budget will also enjoy dining here. After dinner take a walk down to the town beach or in the opposite direction visit the little shops. This was a nice place to eat and we recommend it.

The Skipper's Dock is a wonderful location right ON the shore in lovely Stonington, CT. If you just want to have a nice meal at sunset by the water it would deliver just what you crave, but on our recent visit we found it offered a good deal more.

The night we went for a seafood dinner was a Wednesday evening and we didn't really expect a crowd. We were surprised to find the dining room full to capacity. Fortunately, waiting for a table can actually be fun here. The restaurant has a dock adjacent to its outdoor dining area. Some customers actually dock there and stop by for dinner. If you are waiting for a table, the restaurant will permit you to walk along the dock and watch the sun set over the shore, while you wait. After a short while, we were seated in the main dining room.

Once we were seated, we discovered that the delay had been because of a large party (of at least 20) in the main dining room. Ordinarily, this might have made things more difficult, crowded and noisy. But the wait staff in the main dining room was wonderful. There was never a moment when we felt rushed or delayed because of the crowd in the room. Every meal we ordered was delicious. Our drinks and food were wonderfully prepared and were served with promptly with courtesy and care. They really made us feel like friends who had come for a special visit.
