“A Wonderful Surprise”
Reviewed August 3, 2012

What a wonderful surprise, nestled in the beautiful town of Stonington, CT
is a little gem of a Bread & Breakfast named the Orchard St. Inn. Surrounded by lovely gardens this immaculately kept intimate inn is just walking distance from the center of town and ocean. The breakfast cooked each morning by the owner, Richard was delicious. He was the most gracious of hosts and made our stay extremely comfortable. The room was spacious, quiet and private. I would highly recommend this quaint and cozy Inn to anyone. Stay there and see what famous people have also stayed in this sweet Inn. Great place Richard!

Room Tip: We loved the Primula room ! The delphinium room looked great also.

We booked the Primula room in the cottage at the last minute and what a find it proved to be! The room was beautifully and charmingly decorated and extremely comfortable with a queen bed and sitting area. There is a fridge and small tv in the corner. The bathroom was sparkling and refreshing with a tub and shower combo. The cottage has 3 rooms and all have separate entrances and their own patios with chairs so there is that level of privacy that most travelers appreciate. The landscaping was gorgeous and the window box on our window was filled with red geraniums - so pretty. There is a ceiling fan and A/C unit as well as 2 windows plus the screen door to provide wonderful breezes. Breakfast is served in the main house by Dick himself between 8:30 and 9:45 and since it was a beautiful day we all ate outside on the deck. Once again there were separate tables so you could be friendly with the other guests or keep to yourself if desired. We had fresh fruit, orange juice, coffee, freshly made egg sandwiches. There was yogurt, granola, cereal, etc. as well. Wonderful!

The inn is within walking distance to Water Street where most of the shops and restaurants are located. It is a historic and picturesque neighborhood and we did a lot of walking just admiring the houses and history.

We are already planning a trip back in September for our anniversary and maybe before then with the kids. Do yourself a favor and spend a weekend here - you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: The cottage rooms are more private but there are also rooms inthe main house which may be larger.

Spending our weekend in Stonington at the Orchard Street Inn was a warm way to deal with the winter chill. Our room was clean and comfortable and the Innkeeper, Rich Sattler, was a gracious host, inviting us to sit before the fire before heading out for dinner. An added bonus for me was Richard's intimate knowledge of wooden boats - having two beautiful yachts- one fully restored and the other in progress. We look forward to our next visit at the Orchard Street Inn.

My husband and I went to Stonington to spend a relaxing long weekend away for our anniversary and the Orchard Street Inn was our first time staying at a B&B - it was nice and I would go back again. We stayed in the Delphinium room which was private and comfortable. The town was so quaint & historic so we borrowed the Inn's bicycles and took a self tour. The Inn was also a short walk to the restaurants and shops and a short car ride to the vineyards. Dick (the owner) was very knowledgable of the area, friendly, and cooked a delicious breakfast each morning. The only downside was that the wireless internet from the main house was not strong enough to hold a signal in this back room of the cottage. FYI - The Inn prefers not to take credit card, so you will want to bring either a check or cash to pay for the room.

Room Tip: Rooms in the cottage each have their own entrances so you do not have to worry about disturbing othe...

My husband and I stayed at the inn last weekend and had a great stay. Although it was for only one night, we enjoyed our room and delicious breakfast. Our room was clean and comfortable and Rich, the owner, was so friendly and gracious. We plan on heading back for a longer stay next time.

Room Tip: There is a cottage separate from the main house, which is where we stayed. It was private and so qui...

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the INN, The Assitant Innkeeper was just terrific. Not only did she cook a great breakfast but her local knowledge helped us choose local restaurants and recreation opportunities. The Delphinium has a great patio that providedsa lovely, shaded spot for a five o'clock libation. Definitely a place to visit again.

My husband & I stayed at the Orchard Inn B&B August 23-25, 2011 and could not have been happier with our choice. We had chosen the Delphinium Room which was spacious & lovely, with a private patio at the back of the property. Clearly, a lot of thought had gone into making this room as comfortable as it was. The weather was cool enough in the evening to leave the windows open and enjoy fresh air. All windows had excellent screens as did the sliding door to the patio. This is one of my pet peeves when staying away from home -- the lack of screens or holes in them, but these were in perfect condition as was everything else. The bathroom was beautifully tiled with excellent amenites.
Our host, Dick Sattler, was there to greet us, help with small requests, and show us the lay of the land in a most genial manner, despite having had some major dental work earlier in the day. Breakfast both mornings was superb -- excellent fruit salad, eggs & sausage one morning and french toast and bacon the next -- all prepared by our host. The weather permitted us to dine al fresco on a charming terrace. There is a fine looking common area room for reading, watching tv, or using one's computer. Thoughout our three day stay, we were all monitoring Hurricane Irene's approach which threatened the CT coastline. Even while securing his property for
the worst eventuality, Dick managed to maintain a high level of professionalism. Our thanks to our host for such a pleasant stay. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Stonington. You are only a 10 minute walk to the main drag with lovely shops and good restaurants. The Waterside Grill & Noahs are top notch. Suzanne and Bob McIntosh, Williamsburg, VA
