“Very good except for lots of little details”
Reviewed December 14, 2010

First, the good things: Overall, we were quite pleased with our visit. Every staff member with which we interacted could not have been friendlier or more helpful. That is perhaps the greatest strength of this property. At no point did the good nature of the staff feel contrived, either. The location off of I-95 is very accessible and provided us with a convenient place to stay while visiting the City. We thought that our room and its furnishings were quite nice by our standards, but nitpickers may rightly argue that they are not up to the typical luxurious standard of Hilton. (Not that we're complaining, really) The beds couldn't be more comfortable and the room itself was very clean. We were paranoid about certain unmentionable pests that are plaguing every hotel these days, but saw no sign of them during our thorough, initial check. We'd highly recommend this property except for lots of little details that were missed. The staff was extremely receptive to our candid feedback on these matters, however. Here are some of the things that weren't quite right: There were a few hairs in our bed, which may have grossed some folks out, but because the linens seemed otherwise immaculate we shrugged it off. The flapper valve on the toilet got stuck once, requiring a "jiggling" of the handle. The drain in the tub was rather slow, but only when the water was near its highest volume setting. My wife ordered some soup from room service and was rewarded with great service and equally great food - but only received a knife and a fork. (Oops) On the eighth floor the vending machine wouldn't accept bills due to vandalism, and all four bottled water selections were sold out. It seemed like no one had been checking it. Gosh, I would love to rate this hotel better because they seem to try so hard, but in my humble, quite probably ignorant opinion, management might need to get a bit more organized. With a few documented procedures adhered to and perhaps a more organized scrutiny (recording?) of issues, these problems would all go away. Again, all of it seems moot considering that the rest of the experience was overwhelmingly positive.

One last thing: please install a convex mirror at the blind corner when leaving the elevator and entering the parking garage. This was the only thing that made the garage seem atypically unsafe... but I'm nitpicking.

In summary, if you're easygoing, this hotel is comfortable and a great value. I'd still recommend it. If you're a grumpy nitpicker with unreasonably high standards, however, you might not appreciate this Hilton as much.

If you're looking for a romantic weekend getaway that doesn't break the bank, go for the romance package at this hotel! For ~ $145 (taxes included), my boyfriend and I enjoyed a beautiful room which had a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries waiting for us. The room was great and spacious, and the bathroom had a large comfortable jacuzzi tub! The romance package also includes 2 breakfast vouchers for either breakfast in bed or buffet. We chose the buffet which was scrumptious (and would have cost $18 per person without vouchers)! The romance package also gives you 4PM checkout, which is great for long distance couples looking for a halfway point to enjoy the day.

Besides raving about the value of the romance package - the hotel staff was super friendly and helpful - everyone from the girls at the front desk to the valet gentlemen - which made the stay even more enjoyable. The hotel itself was well decorated, well kept, and had a great gym and pool area. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone!

My husband and I have stayed at this hotel twice when taking (leisure) trips to NYC, to save on cost and gas. Both times, the rooms have been clean, and staff have been helpful. This most recent trip, there was a loud party happening on the hotel lawn, and the staff were kind enough to move us into another room ASAP so that we could get some sleep. I worry that if the hotel had been full, we'd have had to suffer with the noise (they informed us that the party would be going on until 2am, and we had to be up at 6am the following morning--that would not have been acceptable, but they did accommodate us).

My primary complaints are the cost of parking ($10 per night--I think this is a new charge because I would not have stayed here again had I realized they were charging for parking) and the lack of free wireless internet. Unfortunately, due to these charges, I wouldn't return. The positives are that the rooms are clean, the beds are comfy, and there's a free shuttle to the MetroNorth station if you're heading in to NYC.

I stayed here for a wedding, and granted it was a business hotel...heres the quick plus and minus...and you figure it out.

PROS
1) free wifi....in the lobby....supposely it is NOT free if you plug in the ethernet cable, but i somehow did not get charged.. It was about $10/day if i did.
Wifi was reasonably fast and stable...but not the greatest. VPN was slow...but i've had worst.
2) base rooms are average size with average amenities.
3) front desk was very nice and friendly, gave me a free bottled water every night.
4) Offered free shuttle and pickup from nearby locations.
5) big lobby area, and convinient bar and restaurant.
6) has a pool, fitness center, and a small business center.
7) bar tender and waiting staff were very friendly...gave us a few drinks on the house.

CONS
1) no mini bar...i suggest buying everything you need in a convinient store, coz' even the vending machines dont work. The store downstairs closes at 11pm...after that, you're on your own.
2) free wifi eveywhere would be cool....but its not. (even if i wasnt charged for using it)
3) buffet breakfast was typical selection...but what do you expect i guess. Omelete station, sausage, bacon and scramble eggs, regular selection of toast and muffins, and fruits.....not bad i guess for $17.
4) location is in a business park....and next to the freeway....so, great if you're going in and out of town coz' the station is just 3 mins away....but you can't really go out and walk anywhere....you'll need a shuttle. Stamford Mall is just a 5 min drive.

Definitely a business hotel....not somewhere you'd choose to take a vacation with the kids...but then again, you're in stamford, right?

Stayed their twice as an easy stopping point to NYC via the train, which was great. Staff was friendly and helpful. However, Executive floor rooms are not larger, as is promised on www.hilton.com booking where executive floors are supposed to be 50SF bigger. They are not. Also, carpet in hallways to some rooms was frayed. HVAC was loud in room. Get a regular room at an attractive price and you'll be happy. Given the reasonable room rate, it's hard to argue with the hotel.

Spent two nights in executive king. Hotel clean, in good repair typical of Hilton. Bell/valet helpful and attentive. Check in quick. No food available inhotel after 11 pm. We were given number to Dominoes. When the pizza came nobody could find the delivery driver or pizza, a second trip downstairs was required to find him. I saw three other groups camped out in lobby eating delivery pizza. Hmm? Enough said. Room service fast next morning although we ordered room service because the food and coffee that should have been in the executive lounge was not. Another guest looking for the same thing said the hotel told them they had a late wedding or some such excuse. Services paid for but not provided, not good.
