“The Best Bagels in Town”
Review of Liz Sue Bagels

Liz Sue Bagels

A local fixture, Liz Sue Bagels offers the best bagels in town. And what a variety -- probably 15-20 different types. Around 11 am they switch over to Pizza slices. It's often hard to find a parking spot, and you may have to wait in line, but the bagels are worth it.

Liz Sue bagels has been making bagels for the Stamford community for 30+ years. I remember having them on the weekends when I was growing up. On my most recent trip back to Stamford, I was charged $10 for a dozen. They are probably the best bagels you can get in Stamford -- much better than the grocery store. But either the recipe has changed or my taste in bagels has become more sophisticated. (I worked on the Lower East Side for many years and the bagels at Kossar's bialys were much better, even though that was not their specialty.) The bagels are now a bit fat and doughy--I think they changed sometime in the 90s--but the flavor is ok. There is a long line on weekend mornings (part of the experience) but the line moves quickly.

Not sure why people line up for the bagels here. Maybe because there's not much competition. Bagels are very doughy. Taste and texture of a roll, not a bagel.

Little whole in the wall, very simple but one of the locals favorite. really good food, great choice, great prices. As a result, you might have to wait in line for a while... but absolutely worth it....

Thought you could only get good bagels in NYC? Think again. Liz Sue's are fresh every morning and match the best NYC can offer. Long lines trail out the door on week ends, but the wait is worth it.
