We were dropping our son off at college and decided to stay at this new hotel. We were greeted by a friendly staff and a unique lobby, featuring contemporary art that is displayed like a gallery. Our kids were introduced to art in an inadvertent and appealing way. We hadn't seen a hotel like this before. The town of Southport is a quintessential coastal New England town, that has unsurpassed architectual samplings of homes from the 1700's to today. We walked from the hotel to the water and were surprised by stunning properties as well as a coastline peppered with accessible public beaches. The hotel is walking distance from the town- which is small but quaint, across the street from a popular bistro, and is a great bike ride to Westport. The rooms are large, comfortable and a great value. The breakfast was in the ballroom until the restaurant is complete, and was a buffet of fresh fruit, home made muffins, granola, bagels and smoked salmon- juices and the like. We left feeling healthy and happy. The hotel has not finished their outdoor area or restaurant, and we can't wait to come back and stay when these are complete.

It will be a very nice hotel when they finish the place. In the meantime it is a very expensive "room" to sleep in while you visit the lovely Southport. There was construction going on, there are virtually no amenities, and they are seriously understaffed. In fact, their sole receptionist was conducting job interviews in the lobby as we walked in.

Now, every hotel must have its birth pangs, but there is no clue as to the situation on their website and you don't find out anything until you check in. I would have felt better about it if they offered "pre-opening" specials.

That being said, the place is charming, the rooms are clean and lovely, and I would recommend it to a friend, but not yet. I would like to try it again when they complete it in, say, early 2011.

The Delamar is an attractive hotel on first glance with rooms decorated to a high standard but this is where the compliment ends. There is a distinct lack of requirements that any guest seeks in a 4 star hotel. We cut our stay short due the unavailability of several things. There is no garden relaxation area or balconies with the rooms, nor is there a bar/restaurant ,or even tea/coffee-making facility in the room. Breakfast was poor - a very limited selection of bread, fruit - there was no cereal or hot food selection and it was served in an uncomfortable ambiance. There were no holiday-makers, so the lone waiter hovering with nothing to do wasn't conducive to a leisurely breakfast.
This hotel is expensive and the website is too flattering - there is nothing to do in this over-priced hotel which I deem 3 star at best. Mybe when the hotel is fully finished it may be better though I wouldn't guarantee a restful night of sleep due to ferocious traffic from the nearby trains and thundering motorway in the vicinity.

We stayed 4 nights over the 4th of July weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel. The rooms are quite spacious and very luxurious. The staff was attentive and professional from the manager to housekeeping. I look forward to the opening of their restaurant and to our next visit to Fairfield. This is truly a hidden gem in the Fairfield/Southport area.
