Have eaten at the crown a couple of times and it was good but this time the food was not good. My husband's steak pudding was, warmed in the microwave so that the suet was very hard in places. Overall not good which is shame for such a nice pub.

A friendly and welcoming place to eat. The food and service were superb. Next time we visit Devon, will definitely call in for a meal. Recommended !!

We walk to this pub accross the fields from a nearby farm where we stay. We do it every year. It is a great way to spend a Feb day - the pub is warm and welcoming - doesnt mind a bit of mud from the wellies! The walk back always so much fun too!

Having been to the crown a few times as a couple and really enjoyed it, I chose it for a Christmas time family meal out. Upon arrival we were greeted by a chaotic scene where the majority of the kids from the local primary school were running around screaming and playing in the toilets. The parents and a few teachers were happily sitting on our reserved table. The barmaid explained she would 'turf them off soon'. I understand in a village pub you have to look after your local customers but when you book a table for 7 a week before Christmas, you expect a laid table ready for your arrival, maybe even a cracker? We were racking our brains to think of somewhere else we could escape to, but decided to stay and hope for the best. The food was as usual well cooked, well presented and very tasty. What we really needed was someone in charge to think "is this how I would want to be treated if I booked a table somewhere?' Overall it's tainted my view of the place and I would refrain for recommending it in future.

This was an excellent experience; it was a cold and wet day outside but within is what a good English pub should be, warm and welcoming with great food and service. Highly recommended for pub grub; our Sunday lunch was to a good 'home cooked' standard with fresh, warm and tasty with generous portions. The recent extension provides modern, clean, bright and comfortable setting in this village near the north Devon coast.
