I took the ferry for the first time last year, 2012, and had such a wonderful (if brief) trip, i went again five more times during the season, even though i had no pressing need to cross the river. Then i discovered the farm stands just down the road on the Glastonbury side, one of which carries such delicacies as quail eggs for a very reasonable price. Now it is a regular treat to take the ferry to Glastonbury, shop at the farm stands, then ferry it home to Rocky Hill. Although i haven't tried it, there is a cafe on the Rocky Hill side of the river where I've heard the fried clams are out of this world. The ferry is very small, carries only two cars at time, but just to stand outside on deck in the quiet river air adds a few minutes of peacefulness to one's day...and is well worth the few dollars a ride costs these days.
