“Needs Improvement”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2011

The food is good here, but not as good as the setting is lovely, and not as good as it should be for the prices. I also had a bad experience with accommodating my son's food allergies.

“yearning for the good old days?”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2011

This was a great restaurant thirty five years ago. Every decade or so, we give it another chance and for the past twenty years we have been increasingly disappointed.

“Lovely country restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2011

Had a lovely family Christmas Eve dinner here. It was a $65 per person prix fixe. The food was uniformly delicious including some unbelievably good fresh oysters. This is definitely one of our favorite local restaurants.

“Time Warp!!!!! Somebody Please Rescue Restaurant!!!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2010

Food was good enough but not creative. Service was excellent. Atmosphere was awful...dusty dried floral arrangement in urn in center of room. Dried flowers are OUT!!! Get rid of them. Lighting was bright. No candle son table. Simply dim the lights and place a candle on each table. Lovely side patio was unused. Open it up for pre dinner cocktails. The room was half full at best (Saturday night). Use screens to make room smaller so it does not look so empty. Furniture is old and dated...chippendale chairs, drop cork ceiling, cheap artwork. The restaurant could really make things much better without spending a lot of money. If you are expecting a Thomas Henkelman/Homestead Inn type place, this is not it. These country inns are from days bygone and it is sad to see them gasping for air. Maybe the restaurant should be leased out like Splash at the Longshore in Westport??? I would only recommend this restaurant if you do not care about the atmosphere and your food taste is simple. Better for the 80 and older crowd.

“Tired”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2010

I have to agree with the last reviewer. This has been, at times, one of the finest restaurants in Connecticut. But it is very tired at present. The menu is dull, the decor is dated and overall it has become very stuffy. Many better options at the price in the area.
