“Touch of European food in Colombia”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

Having visited La Torre only once, must agree the positive reviews. In addition to Colombian dishes one can find something from different European countries, French, Belgian - even Finnish type was promised :). The owner family is mainly using fresh raw materials, vegetables, root vegetables etc. from own production for food, and the price/quality relation is excellent. It was worth visiting even from Finland.

“European Touch in Quaint Marinilla”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

A short trip from Rionegro in Antioquia is the quaint town of Marinilla. The owners of Restaurante La Torre cordially invited locals and expats to enjoy their offerings bearing a European touch.

“La Torre” refers of course to La Tour Eiffel, a model of which is on every table, enclosing a tea light. Large pictures of the tower and other Paris highlights adorn the walls.

Initially, offerings at La Torre were European, items unfamiliar to Colombians, with a full lunch for about $5.00. Unfortunately, this failed to bring in much Colombian clientele, so, I imagine, bending to local taste, the menu became more Colombian, with typical lunch plates familiar to locals here (i.e. soup, main plate of beef, pork or chicken, salad and rice, arepa bread plus a drink), supplemented by that old staple: Italian food in its many and sundry forms.

Lunch started with arracacha soup, an Andean staple described as “between a carrot and celery,” and whose root is a popular starch food. Anyway, in a soup it’s kind of like a potato; it was creamy and tasty. The Belgian co-owner, Gloria, intuited we didn’t want the typical plate lunch and offered us lasagna, which was nice. A little square of almond cake was a satisfying dessert.

Gloria and partner husband own a finca (farm) near the town on which a lot of the restaurant’s produce is grown. What is unavailable or scarce in Colombia (like plain yoghurt, good cheese, good bread) they make their own. Gloria is a wonderful, friendly hostess and a polyglot, eager to converse in Spanish, English, French, German, Italian or Flemish.

The place is located in a side-street mall, one block from the main square, with plans to move to a better location pending.

We were happy to make friends and look forward to revisiting Restaurante La Torre.

“A must in Marinilla”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

I ate there twice on my stay in Marinilla this weekend. I had the Risotto the first time. It was very good. I had the Creme Brulee for desert and it was exceptional. The fresh tree tomato juice was great too. The next day I had the Salmon Lasagna and it was so good. For desert I had the Nutella Crepe with ice cream. The portions were surprisingly big considering the food is gourmet. The real surprise came at the end when we got the check. The price is very reasonable.

If you're in Marinilla this place is a must.

“"Exotic" Food in Marinilla”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

Located in La Gran Manzana shopping center in the commercial heart of Marinilla, 1 cuadra away from Parque Principal.
They offer a full, quality menu for a (for foreigners ridiculously low) price of only +/- 12000 Col. Pesos. (5€ / 6$), and you can be sure, it will contain some exotic plate or ingredients. Exotic in the sense of not typical Colombian food or vegetables. The owner planted an extensive kitchen garden in his finca, and they try to establish their daily menu on the basis on that. I don’t think there are any other restaurants serving that type of food in Marinilla. Don’t forget to try the Belgian fries and waffles.
Since their current location is getting too small, especially the kitchen, they will be moving to a brand new building within the next months. This is located in the same Calle 30, only some blocks (Carrera 27-26) away, on the other side of Parque Principal. It will be on the ground floor of +/- the highest building in that street, so you should be able to find it easily.
If you want a quality, fresh, not-typical Colombian meal in Marinilla, this is the place.
