We recently stayed one night in Old Saybrook and had dinner at Aspen. We had dinner at the bar. The bartender, Bo, was attentive and accommodating without being intrusive. The meals - rack of lamb and scallops - were great. It was a Saturday night so very busy but not overly noisy and we met some interesting locals during our meal. I am sorry we are not closer because I would definitley become a regular here. A fine meal with great service!

A nice yet relaxed atmosphere. Food is very good. More of an autumn/winter spot for us. Wish they had an outdoor dining area...

The ambience is comfortable and the restaurant is well attended by locals for lunch and dinner. The food is better than average but not quite exquisite.
One if our orders was wrong and to their credit the manager personally came over to make sure we were satisfied. Very nice touch. This small town has few good restaurants....this is one of them

Have eaten twice here now, once with a friend and once with fiance - both of whom are not great fans of fancy fixin's. However, we had stopped to shop at the Saybrook Country Barn and being convenient and quite reasonable for lunch we stopped.

I was on a strict regimen the first time and got the hangar steak over salad. Everything was fresh and tasty. Friend had the burger; no complaints. We didn't want bread so didn't try it. Second time with fiance I was able to have the clam chowder which was especially tasty. The thin-sliced baguette in paper cone was an actual treat after weeks of no-carb (fiance had them bring more) and the ramekin of butter was at room temp - no digging and tearing the bread (why don't more restaurants - even swanky ones - realize that serving hard butter pats/butter is bad?) Fiance had the new-to-tjhe-menu Asian Pork Belly Sliders, which was all he could find that seemed up his alley, as he didn't feel like the burger.I thought he might have a problem with them but they were gone in a matter of minutes and he extolled their virtues. I had the scallops which were delicious (just not a very big serving).

The ambience is lovely and the serving pieces, etc. are defitinitely not Woolworth's Lunch Counter (which is where my Mom "did" lunch in her day). Clientele is adults with a heavy percentage of seniors; very unlikely to run into kids or teenagers here.
